Shiba Inu (SHIB) was listed on three different cryptocurrency exchanges in the past 48 hours after an explosive 966% surge in the same time frame sent the token to 18th in the market capitalization rankings. Self-described as the “Dogecoin Killer,” SHIB’s instant addition to Binance on Monday surprised onlookers, many of whom expected a more in-depth listing process by the world’s largest crypto exchange. What’s more, the fact that 50% of the SHIB token supply is in the hands of one individual made Binance’s decision to list the token immediately all the more surprising. The Shiba team purposely sent 50% …
Having emerged with the self-applied moniker of “Dogecoin Killer,” the latest cryptocurrency to succeed on laughs alone is making its way to Binance. Shiba Inu (SHIB) burst into CoinMarketCap’s top 20 rankings just two days ago, likely a response by traders to the hype surrounding Dogecoin (DOGE). Within 48 hours, the SHIB token went from a valuation of $0.000003 to $0.000032 — a 966% increase, which added to over 2,300,000% growth since the start of the year. When Binance announced it would list SHIB in its innovation zone (a high-risk trading feature) on Monday morning, the token’s valuation more than …
Vitalik Buterin, a co-founder of the world’s most popular smart contract platform, the Ethereum blockchain, has officially become a crypto billionaire. Buterin’s public Ether address, which he described as his main wallet back in 2018, has hit $1 billion on its balance following Ether’s meteoric rise above a $3,000 price mark on Monday. At the time of writing, the address holds around 333,500 Ether (ETH) now worth $1.029 billion, according to on-chain data from Etherscan, as ETH more than quadrupled in value from around $700 at the beginning of 2021. At publishing time, the world’s largest altcoin is trading at …
We are in an unprecedented period of social, political and economic turmoil. As the decentralized financial infrastructure powering billions of dollars of value and building thousands of companies grows, we need to recognize instability around us. The systems, protocols and incentives we create now can be less susceptible to censorship, government overreach and misinformation. Ethereum 2.0’s design has a number of attractive attributes that make it exceptionally well-positioned to reliably operate through the choppy waters ahead as a neutral infrastructure, not as a biased platform. Individuals, enterprises and governments can be confident that Ethereum 2.0 will continue functioning in the …
Ethereum co-creator Vitalik Buterin believes NFTs can be applied to socially relevant causes such as charities and funding public goods, but not while the technology is still viewed as a “casino that largely benefits already-wealthy celebrities.” The author of the Ethereum whitepaper said there was little social value in helping celebrities like Elon Musk add another $1 million to their bank balance by selling NFTs. But he does believe that with support and coordination, non-fungible tokens could have a significant impact on other areas of society. In a blog post titled “The Most Important Scarce Resource is Legitimacy,” Buterin said …
The EIP-1559 is a network upgrade that seeks to send a small fraction of the fee associated with all ETH transactions directly to the network. The tokens will be subsequently burned, thereby reducing the overall number of coins in circulation at any given point. As a result of the proposal, many expect Ethereum’s existing scalability issues and transaction fees to be largely mitigated. Also, if EIP-1559 does go live, it stands to have a significant impact on the overall revenue of Ether miners. It is being said that as a result of the proposal, miner profits may drop by a …
Ethereum’s developers appear to be hastening the network’s shift toward Proof-of-Stake consensus and away from the Proof-of-Work mining community. On March 11, developer “Mikhail Kalinin” published specifications for Eth2’s future blockchain merge with the existing Ethereum network. The documentation notes the consensus upgrade from PoS to PoW will be the core change enacted. 6. This is usually called the "merge" - when the existing Ethereum network will swap over to using the Beacon chain, instead of Proof of Work. There's growing consensus that the merge ought to be prioritized as the next step, see e.g. https://t.co/JlgD1S3GrY — Josh Stark (@0xstark) …
Ethereum co-founder, Vitalik Buterin, believes the network is on the verge of scaling by a factor of 100, predicting the Optimism will release its layer-two solution in the coming weeks. Speaking on the Tim Ferriss podcast, Buterin noted Eth2’s developer are focused on working toward the chain merge with Ethereum, and are confident that layer-two solutions can support the network until sharding is developed. “Rollups are coming very soon,” he said, adding: “we’re fully confident that by the time that we need any more scaling of that, sharding will have already been ready for a long time by then.” Rollups …
Devcon, one of the biggest conferences for the Ethereum community and developers, has been delayed again due to uncertainty around the coronavirus pandemic. According to a Tuesday announcement, the Ethereum Foundation decided to hold off on the conference in Bogota instead of going ahead with its previously announced August target. “We want to make sure we do this responsibly and that as many people as possible are able to make the trip from all around the world, which seems unlikely by early August,” the blog post reads. The Devcon team said that it expects to announce a new date for …
With Ether surpassing its $1,428 all-time high, Buterin is close to re-joining the class of crypto owners who hold $500 million or more in cryptocurrency. At the current ETH price, Buterin’s Ether holdings on his main wallet — “VB” — amount to over $470 million. Back in 2018, the Ethereum co-founder posted his main wallet address. Two other wallets — “VB 2” and “VB 3” — are also associated with Buterin. In Jan. 2020 the Ethereum co-founder’s ETH fortune stood at a mere $58 million. Such has been Ether’s bullish advance over the last 12 months that long-term “hodlers” like …
Major business magazine Forbes has featured Gemini co-founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss as the richest Bitcoin (BTC) billionaires. Compiled by Forbes crypto-focused reporter Michael del Castillo, the ranking provides a list of Bitcoin investors that won the most from Bitcoin’s massive surge up to $42,000 in early January. The ranking includes three Bitcoin investors with an estimated crypto net worth above $1 billion, including the Winklevoss brothers, major industry investor Tim Draper and Matthew Roszak, chairman and co-founder of blockchain firm Bloq. The twins topped the list with an estimated cryptocurrency net worth of around $1.4 billion apiece. Roszak and …
Ethereum has consistently followed a roadmap for its continual evolution to a proof-of-stake consensus protocol, and 2020 saw the groundwork for Ethereum 2.0 soundly laid. The smart contract blockchain has firmly established itself as a platform backed by the second-most valuable cryptocurrency in the world, Ether (ETH), and has become a primary resource for developers to build blockchain-based applications and tools. The emergence of the decentralized finance sector has been largely built on top of the Ethereum blockchain, adding credence to the platform’s decentralized functionality. The surge in the use of the blockchain has come at a steep price though, …
