The capital of Argentina and an agglomeration with more than 12 million citizens, Buenos Aires will make blockchain a vital part of its digitalization drive. Specifically, the city will accept public financial transactions in crypto. As city Mayor Horacio Rodríguez Larreta revealed in his Steve Jobs-styled presentation on April 25, the 12-step development plan titled “Buenos Aires +” envisions a significant increase in crypto and blockchain adoption. Con Buenos Aires + vamos a dar un paso más en el camino hacia un Estado facilitador que desburocratice y agilice los procesos. Un camino en el que el Estado sea el que …
The Montenegrin government has begun fulfilling its pledge to become a hub for blockchain innovation by reportedly making Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin its newest citizen. Montenegrin news outlet RTCB reported that Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić recommended Buterin receive the privilege to help the southeastern European nation promote its efforts to become a blockchain innovation hub. There does not appear to be an official announcement, however, this photo was reportedly shared by the Minister of Finance and Social Welfare Milojko Spajić when Buterin received his passport. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently spoke about his biggest concerns about the crypto industry with TIME Magazine. Following the interview's publication, Buterin responded to tweets that negatively compared his appearance to that of Tom Brady, retired NFL star and founder of the NFT marketplace Autograph. The quote tweets on the new time article about me are truly amazing. These are barely even cherry picked, it's pretty much one piece of awesome after another. Highly recommend scrolling. https://t.co/teyd3ROqrT pic.twitter.com/BDzbwvekhw — vitalik.eth (@VitalikButerin) March 18, 2022 Buterin viewed the critical comments as comical and even posted collages of the "highly recommended" tweets. …
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin graced the front page of Time Magazine this month after he interviewed the publication about the potential perils of the industry he helped create. During the 80-minute interview, Buterin explained the “dystopian potential” of digital assets if implemented incorrectly. Among his biggest worries are overzealous investors, high transaction fees and public displays of wealth by those claiming to have made a fortune trading cryptos and nonfungible tokens (NFTs). Although Buterin has high hopes for Ethereum — the network powering the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization and countless other projects — he fears that his vision of …
As the total cryptocurrency market capitalization dipped below $2 trillion last week, major crypto execs have been increasingly talking about a potential continuous bear market or a "crypto winter." Contrary to the expectations of many in the crypto market, Bitcoin (BTC) failed to surge above $68,000 in 2021 and continued dropping below $40,000 in early 2022, causing significant losses for big crypto investors like MicroStrategy. However, a possible crypto winter could be pretty helpful for the industry by giving a boost in improving the technology, according to Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of the Ethereum blockchain. Lower cryptocurrency prices could contribute to …
The infamous transaction fees of the Ethereum (ETH) ecosystem underwent a decremental phase from Jan. 10 to record the lowest average and median fees of $14.17 and $5.67 — lowest since September 2021. Data from Blockchair shows that the average transaction fee of ETH in January was $53.03, which at its peak was $70.83 back in May 2021. Just within a month, the average fees saw an almost 73.3% decline as evidenced by the following chart. Additionally, the resultant median transaction fee also witnessed an 81.02% drop from January’s $29.88. In the last six months, ETH’s median transaction fee was …
In a blog post published Wednesday, Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum (ETH), expressed his wishes to make nonfungible tokens, or NFTs, soulbound as with the namesake item class in popular MMORPG World of Warcraft, or WoW. In outlining his reasons, Buterin explained that if someone shows they own an NFT that is obtainable by doing X, such as attending an auction, it is not possible to tell if the person actually obtained it from the auction themselves in attendance or simply bought the NFT via the secondary market. An example of a soulbound item in WoW | Source: Blizzard Watch …
The latest episode of Cointelegraph's Crypto Stories featured never-before-heard audio from an exclusive interview with Vitalik Buterin, recorded at a conference in Hong Kong in 2014. In this animated short, viewers can learn about the origin story of Ethereum (ETH), the world'd second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, straight from the founder himself. Back in 2011, while Buterin was a student at the University of Waterloo, he first heard about Bitcoin from his tech entrepreneur father. However, he didn't take the decentralized currency seriously until began participating in Bitcoin forums created by Satoshi Nakamoto. In Buterin's own search to learn about …

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin asked for, and received in spades, examples of “the craziest and most unhinged criticisms” of him on Twitter and elsewhere. Buterin’s lighthearted request came in a Jan. 14 tweet in which he shared some of his own favorite criticisms and revealed the Ethereum (ETH) creator’s lighter side. More than 500 people responded in the first fifteen minutes, although most were in support of Buterin. At the time of writing his tweet had over 1,200 comments. Among the four criticisms Buterin posted was one from the user @ciprianhodl that said he “Looks like an alien crackhead.” What …
In a Reddit post on Friday, Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum (ETH), outlined critical security concerns surrounding cross-chain bridges in the blockchain ecosystem. As told by Buterin, storing native assets directly-chain (Ethereum on Ethereum, Solana on Solana, etc.) provides a certain degree of immunity against 51% attacks. Even if hackers manage to censor or reverse transactions, they cannot propose blocks to take away one's crypto. The rule also applies to the Ethereum application. For example, if hackers launch a 51% attack (by controlling 51% of all circulating ETH supply) while an investor swaps 100 ETH for 320,000 DAI stablecoin, …
Vitalik Buterin has walked listeners through a five-part roadmap on the latest Bankless podcast where he outlined the necessary steps for Ethereum to survive and thrive. In order to achieve ultimate scalability and decentralization, Butalik claimed that Ethereum needs to be more agile and more lightweight in terms of blockchain data so that more people can manage and use it. At the beginning of December, Buterin also published an article titled “Endgame” where he makes the case that all blockchains will ultimately converge in the future, while listing the tools that would allow for block verification to happen in a …
