Do Kwon shares LUNA burn address but warns ‘LUNAtics’ against using it
The recent Terra revival plan announced by Do Kwon, the co-founder and CEO of Terraform Labs, received mixed reactions as many questioned the effectiveness of a hard fork in reviving the fallen prices of Terra (LUNA) and TerraUSD (UST) tokens. Instead, the part of the community recommended burning LUNA as the most plausible way to achieve a comeback. Kwon’s proposal to preserve the Terra ecosystem involves hard forking the existing Terra blockchain without the algorithmic stablecoin and redistributing a new version of the LUNA tokens to investors based on a historical snapshot before the death spiral. However, several crypto entrepreneurs, …

Do you have the right to redeem your stablecoin?
Stablecoins are often discussed with regard to their “stability.” It is usually questioned whether a stablecoin is sufficiently backed with money or other assets. Undoubtedly, it is a very important aspect of stablecoin value. But, does it make sense if the legal terms of a stablecoin do not give you, the stablecoin holder, the legal right to redeem that digital record on blockchain for fiat currency? This article aims to look into the legal terms of the two largest stablecoins — Tether (USDT) by Tether and USD Coin (USDC) by Centre Consortium, established by Coinbase and Circle — to answer …

FCA will ‘absolutely’ consider recent stablecoin depegging when drafting crypto rules: Report
Sarah Pritchard, the executive director of markets at the United Kingdom’s Financial Conduct Authority, or FCA, reportedly said that the regulator will look at the recent volatility in the crypto markets when creating rules for the space in 2022. According to a Friday Bloomberg report, Pritchard said the financial regulator will “absolutely” take into account stablecoins like TerraUSD (UST) and Tether (USDT) depegging from the United States dollar in drafting regulatory guidelines with Her Majesty’s Treasury for release later this year. While the USDT price only briefly dropped to $0.97 on May 12, UST has fallen more than 93% since …

UST aftermath: Is there any future for algorithmic stablecoins?
TerraUSD (UST) is an algorithmic stablecoin that is pegged at $1.00. But, on the evening of May 19, it was trading for $0.083. This isn’t supposed to happen, of course, but last week UST, along with its affiliated coin Terra (LUNA), performed a sort of death spiral that “wiped nearly $50 billion of investor wealth in a few short days,” according to NYDIG’s May 13 newsletter. The crash shook the crypto sector, but it also raised some questions: Is this about a single flawed project or is it also about an entire class of cryptocurrencies — algorithmic stablecoins — which …

Cosmos price rebounds 45% in one week despite Terra's debacle — What's next for ATOM?
Cosmos (ATOM) emerges as the biggest gainer among the top cryptocurrencies this May 20, brushing aside the fears about its association with Terra (LUNA), an algorithmic stablecoin project whose market valuation fell by 99% last week. Cosmos TVL down from $10M to $155K ATOM's price increased by over 10% intraday to almost $12. The gains appeared as a part of a broader upside retracement that started on May 12 when it had fallen to its eleven-month low near $8. That marked around a 45% price recovery in almost a week. The ATOM price rebound occurred despite its parent chain, Cosmos …

Algorithmic, fiat-backed or crypto-backed: What’s the best stablecoin type?
TerraUSD (UST) flipping Binance USD (BUSD) for the third spot in market capitalization didn’t last long. The once-mighty stablecoin that powers the entire Terra ecosystem has found itself reduced to “Terra is more than UST” tweets. While no one knows for sure if LUNA can stage a comeback, UST will certainly go down as one of the algorithmic stablecoins that went kaput in the same fashion as Basis Cash — which Terra creator Do Kwon was allegedly a part of — and Mark Cuban-backed Iron Finance. UST’s failure begs the question if algorithmic stablecoins are truly just doomed to fail? …

Court documents reveal Do Kwon dissolved Terraform Labs Korea days before LUNA crash
The dramatic story of the Terra (LUNA) crash — referred to by some as the Lehman Brothers of crypto — has taken yet another remarkable turn as legal documents reveal the liquidation of two South Korean offices and the dissolution of the Terraform Labs Korea Corporation in the days preceding the dual currency collapse. Initially reported by South Korean news outlet Digital Today, the information obtained from the country’s Supreme Court Registry Office highlight that Do Kwon successfully instigated the liquidation of two branches and an entire company. Both the Busan headquarters and the Seoul offices were slated for dissolution …

Terra fallout: Stablegains lawsuit, Hashed loses billions, Finder wrong and more
Fallout from the collapse of the Terra ecosystem continues to unfold with the United States-based yield generation application Stablegains facing potential legal action over its losses from the event. Users believe that Stablegain has allegedly lost up to $44 million worth of deposited funds, based on a post on a Terra forum by co-founder Kamil Ryszkowski asking for relief funding. He disclosed that a day before TerraUSD (UST) had lost its peg with the U.S. dollar, its users’ funds totaled over 47.6 million UST from 4,878 depositors. Currently, the price of UST is trading at $0.075, according to data from …

Tether CTO: Terra wasn’t a rug pull, it was a poorly designed ‘castle of cards’
Tether (USDT) and Bitfinex chief technology officer Paolo Ardoino said that the Terra (LUNA) project was not intended to be a rug pull, but was simply “poorly designed.” Speaking on the Terra ecosystem’s market-shattering crash, Ardoino likened its algorithmic stablecoin TerraUSD (UST) to a “castle of cards” that was due to fall at any time. Many in the crypto community have highlighted a long list of dubious comments and actions from beleaguered Terraform Labs founder Do Kwon that raise questions about his actions. It has also been reported that Kwon also worked on a previously failed algo-stablecoin project dubbed Basis …

The top financial officials from the Group of Seven (G7) largest advanced industrial economies have called on the Financial Stability Board to speed up crypto-asset regulation, Reuters reported Thursday, citing a copy of a communique it had obtained. The officials from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States met in Koenigswinter, Germany, following a G7 foreign ministers’ meeting earlier in the week: “In light of the recent turmoil in the crypto-asset market, the G7 urges the FSB [Financial Stability Board] [...] to advance the swift development and implementation of consistent and comprehensive regulation.” The turmoil …

Biden's pick for Fed vice chair for supervision calls for congressional action on stablecoins
Michael Barr, a law professor and former advisory board member of Ripple Labs who is United States President Joe Biden’s pick for vice chair for supervision at the Federal Reserve, called for U.S. lawmakers to regulate stablecoins in an effort to address “financial stability risks.” In a confirmation hearing before the Senate Banking Committee on Thursday, Barr said innovative technologies including cryptocurrencies had “some potential for upside in terms of economic benefit” but also “some significant risks,” citing the need for a regulatory framework on stablecoins to prevent the risk of runs. Barr added that the Fed potentially releasing a …

Here’s why Terra’s snowball effect could send Avalanche (AVAX) price to $15
Avalanche (AVAX) has emerged as one of the worst-performing cryptocurrencies among the top-ranking tokens in the last 24 hours, partially due to fears connected to Terra (LUNA) and it's a near-dead UST algorithmic stablecoin project. Avalanche price dips amid Terra's tax evasion FUD AVAX's price plunged by nearly 14% between May 18, where it traded near $35 to May 19 when the price dipped to $28.50. The dip coincided with a South Korean news agency report that claims Terraforms Labs, the developer of the Terra blockchain, owes 100 billion won (approximately $78.5 million) to the regional tax agency. #Terra owes …
