XRP shot up 20% today… on old news?
Ripple’s XRP is rising in price, but the reasons are not entirely clear. Between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm UTC today, XRP gained approximately 20% in value, based on data from TradingView.com. The asset has rallied about 83% total since Friday and is up roughly 98% since Wednesday. XRP’s price rally seemingly lacks any specific news-related catalyst. Information has surfaced regarding the inclusion of Bank of America to Ripple’s payment network, RippleNet, based on a Monday brief from media outlet Ripple News. However, looking at the Wayback Machine — a platform that allows users to browse historical snapshots of websites …

Ripple’s Brad Garlinghouse wants Bitcoin to succeed after all
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse may be a critic of Bitcoin (BTC), but he still wants the original cryptocurrency to succeed in the long run. Appearing on a Nov. 19 episode of Fortune’s Brainstorm podcast, Garlinghouse reportedly said Bitcoin is not competing with Ripple and that he continues to hold the number one cryptocurrency: “I don’t view what Ripple is doing as somehow competitive with Bitcoin. I want Bitcoin to be successful.” He implied that, during the next bull market, a Bitcoin rally bodes well for other cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin has a large gravitational pull on other digital assets, including XRP, due …

Ripple files for yet another new trademark in the US
Ripple, the developer of various XRP-based products, has filed yet another new trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, or USPTO. Filed on Nov. 6, a filing for the trademark “PayString” gives scant information as to which business or product will be marketed under its canopy. Indeed, the trademark registration description is identical to that used for Ripple’s “Ripplenet” filing earlier this year. According to this description, PayString covers the span of different categories of electronic financial services: the use of fiat and digital currencies for remittances and gifts; receiving and disbursing electronic payments in fiat and digital …

SEC should declare XRP a security, says Peter Brandt
Veteran trader and chart analyst Peter Brandt is the latest figure in the cryptocurrency community to dispute the regulatory status of XRP. According to the chartist, XRP — the fourth-largest cryptocurrency at publishing time — is a security, which means that the coin should fall under the regulatory purview of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. “XRP would have been declared as a security if the SEC understood cryptos,” Brandt argued in a tweet on Nov. 10. Brandt’s comments came in response to a statement by Twitter user Rexiby crypto, who claimed that “XRP company owns almost half of …

Ledger owners lose 1.1 million XRP to scam site
Phishing attempts and scams against Ledger wallet owners are on the increase with one such scam netting more than 1,150,000 XRP from its victims. The scam used a phishing email that directed users to a fake version of the Ledger website that substituted a homoglyph in the URL — in this case a letter that looked like the letter ‘e’ but wasn’t. On the fake site, victims were fooled into downloading malware posing as a security update which drained the balance from their Ledger wallet. I got a txt message last night with my full name saying ledger security alert....to …

China’s central bank governor Yi Gang has said that the nation’s digital yuan pilot projects have processed transactions worth over $299 million without any major problems. This suggests that China is much ahead of its competitors in developing and studying the central bank digital currency (CBDC). However, the European Central Bank does not want to be left behind. European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde has invited comments from the public on whether they “would be happy to use a digital Euro just in the way they use a Euro coin or a Euro banknote.” Another central bank that is trying …

Amid a difficult year for the payments-focused cryptocurrency, Ripple’s CTO David Schwartz has recently taken to Twitter to discuss with community members why banks have been reluctant to adopt XRP as a bridge. During an exchange with a member of the Ripple community last week, Schwartz explained that there are a set of obstacles Ripple is facing that has led to banks' reluctance to use XRP to settle cross-border transactions. Schwartz wrote that he sees issues such as, “Regulatory uncertainty, last mile problems, fear of reprisals from existing partners," as preventing widespread adoption. Schwartz also stated that another reason for …
