The Ripple community has launched a new petition to “stop the war” on XRP. Crypto & Policy founder Thomas Hodge has started a Change.org petition directed at Securities and Exchange Commission chair nominee Gary Gensler, asking him to end the SEC’s lawsuit against Ripple once he’s confirmed as chairman of the commission. Announcing the news Wednesday, Crypto & Policy called on Gensler to investigate the potential motives of former SEC chair Jay Clayton and his SEC Director of Corporate Finance William Hinman for “favoring” Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) while harming XRP. The petition alleges that Clayton and Hinman could …

On Dec. 22, 2020, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission filed a complaint against Ripple Labs. The complaint essentially alleged that Ripple had engaged in a multi-year, sustained practice of illegally selling unregistered, non-exempt securities in the form of its XRP tokens. This complaint, having been filed on the last day of former SEC Chairman Jay Clayton’s tenure at the commission, led to a considerable volume of public commentary, as is not unusual for SEC litigation against major players in the crypto space. What is unusual about SEC versus Ripple is the reaction from a sizable segment of XRP …
Ripple has appointed a former Uber executive to lead its expansion into the Southeast Asia region, the firm announced on March 18. Brooks Entwistle joins Ripple after serving as Uber’s chief business officer, leading the firm’s growth and navigating regulatory issues throughout the Asia Pacific. The new managing director of Ripple’s Southeast Asia wing had previously spent two decades at Goldman Sachs, operating as partner and chairman in the same geographic region. Ripple’s determination to push ahead with its Asian expansion of RippleNet despite an ongoing lawsuit with the U.S Securities and Exchange Commission is unsurprising. Ripple Labs CEO Brad …
XRP tokenholders have attempted to insert themselves as third-party defendants in the United States Securities and Exchange Commission’s lawsuit against Ripple Labs. A motion to intervene was filed by John Deaton of Deaton Law Firm on Sunday on behalf of over 6,000 XRP holders. Deaton, himself an XRP holder, argued that the interests of tokenholders were not being adequately represented in the securities lawsuit against Ripple Labs and its executives. Deaton’s argument builds upon the refutation of any securities violations by Ripple Labs. Specifically, if XRP is not a security — as Ripple executives Bradley Garlinghouse and Christian Larsen claim …
In these hyper-partisan times, any bill that includes sponsors from both sides of the aisle is noteworthy. There is one pending now that is particularly important in the crypto space. It was co-sponsored by representatives Ted Budd, Darren Soto, Scott Perry and Josh Gottheimer. Terms of the Token Taxonomy Act of 2021 Among other provisions, the bill would exempt “digital tokens” from the definition of security, and it would also preempt inconsistent state regulation. The banking institutions named specifically were SVB Financial Group, First Republic Bank, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Silver Lake Bank, Silvergate Bank and Citibank. Lawyers for Garlinghouse and Larsen argued …
Ripple has ended its lawsuit against YouTube for the social media platform’s alleged complicity in a spate of fake XRP giveaway scams, CEO Brad Garlinghouse announced on March 9. Ripple and Garlinghouse filed a lawsuit against YouTube LLC in April 2020, claiming that the platform itself had profited from the fraudulent activity, and that it had failed to exercise its administrative powers to stop it. Garlinghouse announced on Twitter on March 9: “Last year, @Ripple and I sued @YouTube for failing to enforce its own policies by allowing fake accounts (impersonating my/Ripple’s verified accounts) to conduct XRP giveaway scams. We’ve …
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has issued a statement announcing the fintech firm and MoneyGram International have together decided to “wind down” their partnership. However, the March 8 statement noted that both companies are committed to revisiting some form of partnership together in the future. Garlinghouse noted that together, Ripple and MoneyGram International (MGI) processed billions of dollars through Ripple’s RippleNet and On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) services, stating: “While the lack of a crypto reg framework has needlessly muddied the waters for U.S. businesses & consumers, there’s no denying what Ripple and MGI have achieved together.” The Ripple CEO has repeatedly accused …
