Judge rejects XRP hodlers’ bid to join SEC against Ripple case as defendants
There has been another twist in the ongoing battle between distributed ledger technology firm Ripple and the United State Securities and Exchange Commission. On Monday, U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres ruled that individuals holding the company’s XRP token cannot act in Ripple’s ongoing lawsuit as defendants. The determination comes after a number of XRP token holders aimed to file “friends of the court” briefs, which would allow them to join the case as defendants and support Ripple in its claims that the token does not violate securities laws. Judge Torres asserted that allowing XRP holders to join the suit would …

Traders sit idly by as Ripple (XRP) price struggles to avoid a drop to $0.70
Ripple's (XRP) rallied 72% from Aug. 7 to Aug. 14 but since then, every attempt to break out of the descending channel has been quickly suppressed. The past ten days have been no different, with the XRP price correcting by 15%. The platform was first launched in 2012 and Ripple is a distributed open-source protocol and remittance system created by United States-based Ripple Labs. The company provides cross-border payment solutions through domestic partnerships or by offering RippleNet services. At one point, XRP price was trading above $2, but the ongoing multi-year lawsuit between Ripple and the U.S. Securities and Exchange …

In a Wednesday announcement, Ripple said the $250 million fund would be focused on accelerating adoption in the crypto space by working with nonfungible tokens, or NFTs. The platform said it wanted to address concerns with the minting of the tokenized artwork, including “clunky” user experiences, high transaction fees and the possible effects on the environment. “We believe NFTs embody the promise of tokenization and represent a tipping point for its embrace by the mainstream,” said …

XRP is for payments, Bitcoin for ‘speculation,’ says former US Treasurer
Amid the ongoing legal battle between Ripple and United States’ securities regulators, a former U.S. Treasurer and Ripple board member has voiced support for XRP. Former Treasurer Rosa Rios, who joined Ripple’s board of directors in May 2021, took to Twitter on Sunday to reiterate her confidence in XRP while criticizing other cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC). Rios argued that jurisdictions like China are now cracking down on Bitcoin, as cryptocurrencies like BTC allegedly provide nothing more than a tool for speculation. Tagging Bitcoin, Ripple and its payment ecosystem, RippleNet, the former U.S. official wrote: “XRP’s primary purpose is facilitating …

The Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan is partnering with Ripple to pilot a central bank digital currency (CBDC) in the mountainous kingdom. In a Wednesday announcement, Ripple Labs said Bhutan’s central bank would be taking advantage of the company’s private ledger to issue and manage a digital ngultrum. According to Ripple, the move was motivated by the Royal Monetary Authority’s (RMA) effort to improve cross-border payments, expand financial inclusion for its residents, and “extend its commitment to sustainability as the only carbon-negative country in the world.” With a population of roughly 800,000, Bhutan’s gross domestic product amounted to $2.5 billion …

Evolve or die: How smart contracts are shifting the crypto sector’s balance of power
One of the familiar themes seen in previous crypto market cycles is the shifting market caps, popularity and ranking of the top 10 projects that see significant gains during bull phases, only to fade into obscurity during the bear markets. For many of these projects, they follow a recognizable boom-to-bust cycle and never return to their previous glory. During the 2017–2018 bull market and initial coin offering (ICO) boom, which was driven by Ethereum network-based projects, all manner of small smart contract-oriented projects rallied thousands of percentage to unexpected highs. During this time, projects like Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Litecoin (LTC), …

Judge orders Ripple to hand over 1 million Slack messages to the SEC
United States Magistrate Judge Sarah Netburn has ordered Ripple to produce 1 million missing Slack messages among employees that the Securities and Exchange Commission has sought to access. Despite Ripple’s protestations that complying would cost up to $1 million, the judge deemed the messages critical and unique evidence for the SEC’s ongoing case against the multi-billion-dollar company for selling unregistered securities. The SEC filed a suit against Ripple Labs and its initial and current CEOs, Christian Larsen and Bradley Garlinghouse, for selling XRP as an unregistered security on Dec. 20. According to Law360, in the original motion to compel Ripple …

Ripple files motion to expose XRP holdings of SEC employees
Ripple has filed a motion to compel the United States Securities and Exchange Commission to disclose its internal cryptocurrency trading policies as part of the ongoing legal battle with the securities regulator. James Filan, an attorney closely following the SEC's case against Ripple, shared a new motion document seeking to bring clarity to whether the SEC permitted its own employees to trade XRP, which, as per the regulator’s allegations, is an unregistered security. Filed on Friday on behalf of several defendants — including Ripple Labs, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, and Ripple executive chairman Chris Larsen — the motion asks the …

XRP price chart 'double bottom' puts next bullish target at $1
Ripple's XRP token could hit $1 in the coming days, according to a classic technical chart setup. Dubbed a "double bottom," the trend reversal indicator appears after the price bottoms out at a level, rebounds toward a higher resistance level, and then pulls back to or near the first bottom level — only to rebound again to the previous resistance line (also called the "neckline"). Should the price close above the neckline, an extended move upward is anticipated, the length of which equals the total height between the neckline and the bottom level. It appears that XRP is closer to …

SEC wants ‘terabytes’ of Slack communications from Ripple
The legal battle between the United States Securities Exchange Commission (SEC and blockchain-based payments firm Ripple continues, with the regulator wanting further access to Ripple’s internal communications. The SEC filed a motion with the Southern District of New York on Monday, requesting Judge Sarah Netbrun to order Ripple to produce and submit its employee messaging on business communication platform Slack. The filing notes that Ripple’s previous production of Slack messages to the SEC was incomplete, with the firm eventually admitting that this was caused due to a “data processing mistake” after “repeatedly contending that its Slack production was complete.” The …
