Galaxy Digital delays BitGo acquisition to later on in 2022
Cryptocurrency investment firm Galaxy Digital has not managed to finalize the acquisition of the digital asset custodian BitGo in the first quarter of 2022 as the firm originally planned. Galaxy Digital has made some changes to the terms of its acquisition of BitGo, CEO Mike Novogratz announced in an earnings call on Thursday. “We’ve adjusted the deal some, for progress that BitGo has made,” Novogratz said, noting that BitGo has hired about 150 people since the firms originally signed the deal in May last year. Crypto industry fires back after EU vote to block ‘unhosted’ wallets
The crypto industry has reacted strongly against a EU Parliament committee voting in favor of a regulatory package for tighter know-your-customer (KYC) and anti-money laundering (AML) rules for ”unhosted” private wallets. The new guidelines would require crypto service providers — most commonly exchanges — to verify the identity of every individual behind an unhosted wallet that interacts with them, while any transaction greater than 1,000 Euros ($1,100) would need to be reported to authorities. Coinbase to track off-platform crypto transfers in Canada, Singapore, Japan
Citing compliance with local jurisdictions, crypto exchange Coinbase announced to soon collect additional information from users based in Canada, Singapore and Japan. Effective from April 1, Coinbase users from Canada, Singapore and Japan will be required to provide additional information while sending cryptocurrencies to a different (non-Coinbase) platform. However, while Singaporean and Japanese investors will be required to share additional information about the recipient for every single off-platform transaction, Canadians sending less than $801 (1,000 CAD) will be exempted from this requirement. Coinbase Wallet adds support for Solana
Top U.S. crypto exchange Coinbase has added wallet support for Solana (SOL) and its ecosystem of Solana tokens (SPL). 'Millionaire' stablecoin wallet addresses surpass 12 million
According to data compiled by Coin Metrics, the number of stablecoin wallet addresses with account balances over an equivalent $1 million USD has recently surpassed 12 million — up from 4 million one year ago. The stablecoins counted in the analysis include Tether ERC-20 (USDT), Tether TRC-20, Binance USD, DAI, GUSD, HUSD, PAX, and USD Coin (USDC). The vast majority of addresses holding more than $1 million came from Tether TRC-20 (approx. 8 million), followed by Tether ERC-20 (approx. 3.4 million), and USDC (approx. 1 million). ConsenSys raises $450M in Series D funding, doubles valuation in four months
On Tuesday, ConsenSys, the leading Ethereum (ETH) and decentralized protocols software company with product suites such as MetaMask, Infura, and Truffle, announced the close of a $450 million Series D funding round led by ParaFi Capital. Notable new investors included Temasek, SoftBank Vision Fund 2, Microsoft, Anthos Capital, Sound Ventures, and C Ventures.
