Ripple reports XRP holdings below 50% for the first time
Ripple Lab’s XRP token holdings have dropped below 50% of the total circulating supply for the first time in the company’s history. Ripple has faced criticism in the past by some that have raised questions over the firm’s significantly large ownership of XRP tokens, arguing that it gives the company centralized control over its XRP Ledger (XRPL). In a Q3 report published on Oct. 27, Ripple once again refuted that criticism, while also pointing out that its XRP holdings continue to decline, falling below 50 billion tokens, or 50% of the total supply. “Critics have pointed to the company’s XRP …

A new definition of crypto comes from the IRS — Law Decoded, Oct. 17-24
No matter how much attention the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) or Commodity Futures Trading Commission gets in the crypto industry, for individual traders and investors, it often comes down to the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) position — and how much tax one owes. Last week, the IRS last week released a draft bill featuring a well-defined digital assets section that outlines if and how taxpayers will account for the use of cryptocurrencies, stablecoins and nonfungible tokens (NFTs). Page 16 of the draft defines digital assets as any digital representations of the value recorded on a “cryptographically secured …

Crypto traders shift their focus to altcoins while Bitcoin price consolidates
It has been difficult for Bitcoin (BTC) and the cryptocurrency markets to start a strong sustained recovery while the United States dollar is near its multi-year high and the U.S. equities markets are near their June lows. This shows that the sentiment remains negative and traders are not interested in taking on risk in their portfolios. The U.S. equities markets fell sharply on Oct. 7 following the release of September’s nonfarm payroll data but they did manage marginal gains for the week. The S&P 500 rose 1.5% and the Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.7% last week. Meanwhile, Bitcoin is on track …
