New York state announces another upgrade to its virtual currency monitoring capacity
The New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) has announced enhancements to its ability to detect illegal activities with virtual currency among the entities its regulates. The new capacities are part of its efforts to keep pace with the industry and respond proactively to the virtual currency market, it said. Proof of Stake Alliance publishes white papers on legal aspects of liquidity staking
The Proof of Stake Alliance (POSA), a nonprofit industry alliance, has published two white papers examining on the status of deposit tokens in United States securities and tax law on Feb. 21. The papers were authored by representatives of over 10 industry groups. Liquid staking is the practice on blockchains using a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism of issuing transferrable receipt tokens to show ownership of staked crypto assets or rewards accrued for staking. Paxos is engaged in 'constructive discussions' with SEC: Report
Stablecoin issuer Paxos was reportedly discussing the Binance USD (BUSD) stablecoin with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission following a Wells notice from the financial regulator. According to a Feb. 21 Reuters report, Paxos chief executive officer Charles Cascarilla said the firm was “engaged in constructive discussions” with the SEC and would continue to speak in private. eNaira is 'crippled': Nigeria in talks with NY-based company for revamp
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) continues with its attempts to create its central bank digital currency (CBDC), the eNaira, but this time it’s calling in for backup. In a Bloomberg report on Feb. 21, the CBN is in talks with new “technology partners” for the development of a new and improved system to manage the eNaira. Brit who consulted North Korea on crypto reportedly detained in Moscow
The local bureau of Interpol detained a British national charged by the United States Department of Justice (DoJ) in Moscow. He’s being alleged of conspiring to violate U.S. sanctions on North Korea. Many stablecoins fall short of coming regulatory recommendations, says FSB chair
Financial Stability Board (FSB) chair Klaas Knot has outlined how the organization plans to address key threats to financial stability this year in a Feb. 20 letter sent to the G20’s Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors.
