Chainlink ditches Ethereum PoW forks for PoS after The Merge
Chainlink is aligning itself with the decision of the Ethereum Foundation and its community. Therefore forked versions of the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain, which includes PoW forks, will no longer be supported by the Chainlink (LINK) protocol post-Merge. In an official announcement, the Chainlink protocol revealed its services will remain on the Ethereum blockchain post the long-awaited Merge. The Ethereum blockchain anticipates the Merge in September 2022, which will merge its mainnet with the Beacon Chain. This will transition all of Ethereum operations from Proof-of-Work (PoW) to Proof-of-Stake (PoS). The Merge has been pushed back from mid-2021 to September 2022 before. …

Ethereum devs confirm the perpetual date for The Merge
Ethereum network is nearing the merger phase of its crucial transition from proof-of-work (PoW) mining consensus to proof-of-stake (PoS). Ethereum (ETH) devs offered a perpetual merger date during a conference call on Thursday. The conference call saw core Ethereum developer Tim Beiko, who runs core protocol meetings, propose September 19 as the tentative target date for the merger. The proposed target date didn’t face any objection from the core developers. Later, Ethereum developer superphiz.eth tweeted about the roadmap to the merger and also cleared that the proposed target date should be seen as a roadmap rather than a hard deadline. …

ECB report likens PoW to fossil fuel cars, PoS to electric vehicles
Amid the soaring inflation, the European Central Bank (ECB) has found time to sum up its concerns about the “significant carbon footprint” of Bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies, which require vast amounts of computational power. ECB published the report titled “Mining the environment — is climate risk priced into crypto-assets?” on July 12. In the report, the ECB research group reinforces the environmental narrative about the battle of protocols, where the proof-of-work (PoW) concept represents a threat to the planet. In contrast, the proof-of-stake (PoS) is the only sustainable crypto option, experts argue. The article compares the amount of consumed …

Ethereum price risks ‘bear flag’ breakdown, 20% drop against Bitcoin
Ethereum’s native token, Ether (ETH), is down nearly 40% against Bitcoin (BTC) since December 2021. But, even more pain is possible for the ETH/BTC pair in the coming weeks, based on a classic technical indicator. Ethereum price risks technical breakdown The ETH/BTC chart has been forming a bear flag since early June 2022 on the three-day timeframe. In detail, bear flags are considered bearish continuation patterns that form as the price consolidates higher inside a range defined by two ascending parallel trendlines after a sharp decline. They resolve after the price breaks below the lower trendline, i.e., in the direction …

Ethereum co-founder responds to PoS critics amid upcoming Merge
While some believe that Ethereum’s upcoming shift to proof-of-stake (PoS) may push the platform to eventually surpass Bitcoin (BTC), others are taking this opportunity to make snarky remarks on Twitter, triggering a rebuttal from Vitalik Buterin, a co-founder of Ethereum. In a tweet, Bitcoiner Nick Payton called out “Proof of Stakers” and argued that voting to change the properties on PoS platforms proves that PoS assets are securities. Dear Proof of Stakers, The fact that you can vote on something to change its properties is proof that it's a security. Love, Bitcoin — Nick (@NickDPayton) July 11, 2022 Buterin responded …

BTC bull Michael Saylor: Ethereum is ‘obviously’ a security
MicroStrategy CEO and Bitcoin (BTC) bull Michael Saylor said that Ether (ETH) is ‘obviously’ a security as he doubled down on labeling BTC as the only commodity in the crypto sector. In an interview with Altcoin Daily, Saylor was questioned on his take regarding the classification of both BTC and ETH as commodities by United States Senators such as Kirsten Gillibrand and Cynthia Lummis, along with figureheads from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Saylor provided a lengthy run down on what he thou are the fundamental differences between the Bitcoin and Ethereum …

5 events that could put an end to the current crypto bear market
Much to the chagrin of cryptocurrency investors across the ecosystem, the bear market has officially set in and brought with it devastating price collapses that have left relatively few unscathed. As the popular topic of conversation now centers on bearish predictions of how low Bitcoin (BTC) will go and how long this iteration of the crypto winter will last, those with more experience on the matter know that it’s virtually impossible to predict the bottom and it would be wise to apply those energies elsewhere. Instead of focusing on the when of the end, perhaps it’s more constructive to explore …

Ethereum fork a success as Sepolia testnet gears up to trial the Merge
The difficulty bomb-delaying Gray Glacier hard fork went live on Ethereum on Thursday without a hitch, according to the network’s core devs including Ethereum Foundation’s Tim Beiko. The Sepolia testnet is also set to run through its Merge trial over the next few days and is the second last testnet to go through the trial before the official Merge. According to Etherscan, the Gray Glacier hard fork was initiated on block number 15050000 at roughly 6:54 am EST on Thursday. The hard fork will now delay the difficulty bomb by roughly 700,000 blocks or 100 days, giving devs until mid-October …

‘Unique phenomenon’: All 5B toncoins mined on PoS TON blockchain
The TON Foundation, an organization developing the Telegram-initiated blockchain project, the TON blockchain, on Tuesday officially announced that TON miners have mined the final toncoin. "Tens of thousands of miners have mined the entire issuance of toncoins, which was about 5 billion tokens,” TON Foundation founding member and core developer Anatoly Makosov said in a statement to Cointelegraph. The last toncoin was mined on June 28, he noted. The end of toncoin mining marks a major milestone in TON's distribution, starting its new era as an entirely PoS blockchain. From now on, new toncoins will only enter circulation via PoS …

Ethereum testnet Beacon Chain launched and ready for trial merge
The Sepolia testnet Beacon Chain has gone live, setting the stage for its merge dress rehearsal to give Ethereum network developers valuable technical insights. Upon merging with its dedicated Beacon Chain, the Sepolia testnet will begin reaching consensus using proof-of-stake (PoS) rather than proof-of-work (PoW), which will provide data on what may happen when the Ethereum mainnet performs its merge. The Ethereum Sepolia Beacon Chain has been deployed! The Merge is coming https://t.co/IuJBnFp0Xx — Crypto-Gucci.eth ᵍᵐ (@CryptoGucci) June 20, 2022 The exact date of the Sepolia merge has not been determined. Ethereum price risks a drop below $1K if these key price metrics turn bearish
Ether (ETH) price is down 37.5% in the last seven days and recent news reported that developers decided to postpone the network's migration to a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus. This upgrade is expected to end the dependency on proof-of-work (PoW) mining and the Merge scalability solution that has been pursued for the past six years. Competing smart contracts like BNB, Cardano (ADA) and Solana (SOL) outperformed Ether by 13% to 17% since June 8 even though there was a market-wide correction in the cryptocurrency sector. This suggests that the Ethereum network's issues also weighed on the ETH price. The "difficulty bomb," …
