Bitcoin is the ‘Amazon of crypto’ and everything else are bets, says Blocktower founder
Ari Paul, founder of blockchain investment firm Blocktower Capital, weighed in on the bear market, comparing the situation to the tech crash back in the year 2000. Paul likens Bitcoin (BTC) to Amazon, which is one of the companies that survived the market collapse. In a Twitter thread, Paul noted that while there are “modest” products in the crypto market, many improvements must be done in order to reach the mainstream. Paul also argues that adoption is “5 years behind” from what many hoped. The executive also highlighted network outages in Solana, delays in scaling Ethereum and Bitcoin’s security and …

Bitcoin price action decouples from stock markets, but not in a good way
This week the stock markets began to flash a little green, and Bitcoin (BTC) is decoupling from traditional markets — but not in a good way. The cryptocurrency is down 3%, while the Nasdaq Composite tech-heavy stock market index is up 3.1%. May 27 data from the United States Commerce Department shows that the personal savings rate fell to 4.4% in April to reach the lowest level since 2008, Meanwhile, crypto traders are worried that worsening global macroeconomic conditions could add to investors’ aversion to risky assets. For example, Invesco QQQ Trust, a $160 billion tech company-based U.S. exchange-traded fund …

Avalanche nears key breakdown level that could sink AVAX price by another 65%
Avalanche (AVAX) gained 0.5% to reach over $31 on May 23 but AVAX price remains trapped inside a trading range that appears like a "bear pennant" structure. Avalanche could get buried technicals Bear pennants are bearish continuation patterns, i.e., they resolve after the price breaks out of them to the downside and then—as a rule of technical analysis—falls by as much as the height of the previous downtrend, also called "flagpole." AVAX is nearing a technical breakdown as its price moves toward the pennant's apex, i.e., the point where its upper and lower trendlines converge. This paints the bearish target …

20% drop in the S&P 500 puts stocks in a bear market, Bitcoin and altcoins follow
Whoever coined the phrase “sell in May and go away” had brilliant insight, and the performance of crypto and stock markets over the past three weeks has shown that the expression still rings true. May 20 has seen a pan selloff across all asset classes, leaving traders with few options to escape the carnage as inflation concerns and rising interest rates continue to dominate the headlines. Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView shows that the price of Bitcoin (BTC) taking on water below $29,000, and traders worry that losing this level will ensure a visit to the low $20,000s …

Altcoin prices briefly rebounded, but derivatives metrics predict worsening conditions
On May 12, the total crypto market capitalization reached its lowest close in 10 months and the metric continues to test the $1.23 trillion support level. However, the following seven days were reasonably calm while Bitcoin (BTC) gained 3.4% and Ether (ETH) added a modest 1.5%. Presently, the aggregate crypto cap stands at $1.31 trillion. Ripples from Terra's (LUNA) collapse continue to impact crypto markets, especially the decentralized finance industry. Moreover, the recent decline in traditional markets has led to a loss of $7.6 trillion in market cap from the Nasdaq Stock Market Index, which is higher than the dot-com …

Here’s why bears aim to keep Bitcoin under $29K ahead of Friday’s $640M BTC options expiry
Over the past nine days, Bitcoin's (BTC) daily closing price fluctuated in a tight range between $28,700 and $31,300. The May 12 collapse of TerraUSD (UST), previously the third-largest stablecoin by market cap, negatively impacted investor confidence and the path for Bitcoin' price recovery seems clouded after the Nasdaq Composite Stock Market Index plunged 4.7% on May 18. Disappointing quarterly results from top United States retailers are amping up recession fears and on May 18, Target (TG) shares dropped 25%, while Walmart (WMT) stock plunged 17% in two days. The prospect of an economic slowdown brought the S&P 500 Index …

3 reasons why Cardano can sink further despite ADA price bouncing 58%
Cardano (ADA) pared a big portion of the weekly losses incurred during this week's crypto market rout. ADA's price reached an intraday high of $0.60 on May 13, a day after rebounding from its week-to-date low of $0.38 — a 58% rally. The huge upside retracement appeared in the wake of similar price action in the crypto market with top cryptos Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) rebounding by 23% and 25.75% since yesterday's lows. But the sharp ADA recovery does not promise an extended upward continuation, at least according to the three factors discussed below. Stock market crash far from …

Bitcoin gains superior to stocks in the long term, economist says
The recent crashes in stock and cryptocurrency markets have provided yet another chance to observe the better return opportunities of crypto versus stocks, according to several industry executives. This week, the crypto market saw one of its biggest sell-offs ever, with the total market capitalization plummeting more than 30% from $1.8 trillion on May 4 to as low as $1.2 trillion on Thursday. Bitcoin (BTC), the biggest digital asset by market capitalization, tumbled below $27,000 for the first time since late 2020, losing 30% of value over the same period. But the market instability has not been exclusive to crypto. …

Bitcoin’s rocky road to becoming a risk-off asset: Analysts investigate
Thursday was a bloodbath for traditional and cryptocurrency markets. On the worst day of trading since 2020, Bitcoin (BTC) dropped over 7%, while the Nasdaq slipped over 5%. Many hoped for capitulation in the trade and crypto markets, and although the short-term outlook for Bitcoin looks weak, one analyst and some evidence would suggest that Bitcoin is still on course to becoming a risk-off asset. Markets are by no means math-based or infallible, but a risk-off asset describes an asset that performs well–or is an asset that investors flock to–when overall market sentiment wanes. Government bonds are risk-off assets. Conversely, …

Bitcoin falls toward $38K as stocks abandon Fed ‘reactionary rally’
Bitcoin (BTC) lost almost $1,000 in the first hour of Wall Street trading on May 5 as a brief rally ended in disappointment. Nasdaq drops 4% on post-Fed open Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView followed BTC/USD as it returned to $38,130 on Bitstamp almost 24 hours after reaching weekly highs of $40,050. The move came courtesy of highly correlated United States stock markets, which opened with volatility after posting their own short-lived gains following comments from the Federal Reserve on May 4.
