The Bitcoin mining industry continues to face a challenging year as the price of Bitcoin (BTC) hovers below $20,000, coupled with rising energy costs in North America and Europe. Regulators have also recently started clamping down on crypto mining, as a recent report from the Bitcoin Mining Council (BMC) found that Bitcoin has seen a 41% increase in energy consumption year-on-year (YoY). As a result, a number of crypto mining companies have been forced to sell off equipment, while others have filed for bankruptcy. Yet, this hasn’t been the case for some miners, particularly those focused on clean energy solutions …
October witnessed a surge in Bitcoin’s (BTC) hash rate which is pushing the metric to a new high of 245 Exahashes per second. These changes led to a sharp decrease in the hash price, resulting in a drop in the profit margins for BTC miners reaching a low of $66.8 USD/PH (per one quadrillion hashes per second) on Oct. 24, 2022. According to Luxor Technologies, “hashprice” is the revenue BTC miners earn per unit of hash rate, which is the total computational power deployed by miners processing transactions on a proof-of-work network. Not only has volume been inconsistent, the Bitcoin …
For over a year, the oil-rich Central Asian country of Kazakhstan has maintained its position as the third-biggest contributor to Bitcoin (BTC) mining after surpassing Russia back in February 2021. As of January 2022, Kazakhstan contributed to 13.22% of the total Bitcoin hash rate, positioned right after the historical leaders the United States (37.84%) and China (21.11%), as shown below. Along similar timelines, Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance data estimated that Kazakhstan’s absolute hash rate contribution (monthly average) was 24.8 exahashes per second (Eh/s). Meanwhile, the US and China contributed 71 Eh/s and 39.6 Eh/s, respectively. The International Energy Agency …
Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC) are created using a distributed computing process called mining. Miners (the network participants) undertake mining to verify the legitimacy of transactions on the blockchain and ensure network security by preventing double-spending. In return for their efforts, miners are rewarded with a certain amount of BTC. There are various ways to mine cryptocurrencies, and this article will discuss how to get started with mobile crypto mining from the comfort of your home. What is crypto mining? Mining, a resource-intensive activity that often demands enormous computing power to solve a computational problem and add the next valid block …
Bitcoin (BTC) entered an ascending channel in mid-September and has continued to trade sideways activity near $19,500. Due to the bullish nature of the technical formation and a drop in sell pressure from troubled miners, analysts expect a price increase over the next couple of months. Independent analyst @el_crypto_prof noted that BTC's price formed a "1-2-3 Reversal-Pattern" on a daily time frame, hinting that $20,000 could flip to support soon. $BTC #Bitcoin Yes, the price action of $BTC is really boring, isn't it? But if you look closely, a textbook "1-2-3 Reversal-Pattern" has formed in the last few days, which …
Crypto lender Celsius Network's legal journey has gained another chapter as Bitcoin miner Core Scientific accused the company of refusing to pay its bills since filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to court papers filed on Oct. 19. Core Scientific, which is one of the largest publicly-traded crypto companies, claims the default on payments is threatening its financial stability, already hurt by crypto winter and high energy costs. In the court filings, Celsius alleges that Core Scientific delayed mining rig deployment and supplied them with less power than required under their contract. Celsius is reportedly seeking a court order holding …
Energy problems in North America and Europe and prevailing market conditions have spelled another bleak quarter for Bitcoin (BTC) mining operators on both continents. The latest Q3 mining report from Hashrate Index has highlighted several factors that have led to a significantly lower hash price and higher cost to produce 1 BTC. Hash price is the measurement used by the industry to determine the market value per unit of hashing power. This is measured by dividing the dollar per terahash per second per day and is influenced by changes in mining difficulty and the price of BTC. As Hashrate Index …
Cryptocurrency mining involves using a computer, or several computers, to validate transactions on a blockchain. Technically, these computers solve cryptographic equations and record data in a digital ledger. The more computers solving equations, the faster the blockchain can validate transactions. When miners verify the hashes of unconfirmed blocks, they receive a reward for each verified hash. Mining can be energy and computationally-intensive, requiring specialized hardware and crypto-mining software. Among the most mined (and most profitable) cryptocurrencies are Bitcoin (BTC), Monero (XMR), Ravencoin (RVN), and Dogecoin (DOGE). Ether (ETH) used to be part of this list but Ethereum has recently shifted …
Binance Pool, a mining subsidiary of Binance, launched a $500 million lending project to support the crypto mining industry. It will provide loans to private blue-chip Bitcoin (BTC) crypto miners. According to the official blog post from Oct. 14, the Binance Pool will provide access to a $500 million loan fund on several conditions, which include an 18-to-24-month term, 5% to 10% interest rates, and some physical or digital assets as a security. The company will look at a wide range of metrics, including current performance, mining power and security quantity, to define the borrower's creditworthiness. Binance Pool will also …
What are the risks and flaws of the Ethereum merge? One of the foremost concerns regarding the Merge is that of centralization. Another potential concern is the risk of scams, as the general public may not be aware of how the Merge works. A fundamental flaw in the Merge is that it will likely increase the concentration of power within the network. The more valuable a staker’s position is, the more they will be rewarded for validating blocks. This could lead to a situation where a small number of wealthy individuals or groups control the majority of the stake and …
Amid soaring Bitcoin (BTC) mining difficulty and sinking mining profitability, Colorado-based Bitcoin miner Crusoe Energy Systems has announced the acquisition of the operating assets of portable BTC mining operator Great American Mining (GAM). The deal will see GAM’s operations integrate into Crusoe’s, adding over 10 megawatts (MW) to its mining output and around 4,000 application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) crypto mining rigs — increasing Crusoe’s capacity by about 9% according to the company. GAM builds and deploys portable BTC mining facilities — vehicle trailer-mounted containers enclosed with ASIC miners — with the goal of helping oil and gas companies take advantage …
The City of Niagara Falls has issued a cease and desist notice to New York-headquartered crypto mining firm Bit Digital over a data facility owned and operated by its partner Blockfusion. In an Oct. 7 announcement, Bit Digital said the city notice would effectively stop the facility from conducting “any cryptocurrency mining or related operations” until Blockfusion was in compliance with local zoning ordinances. The Niagara Falls ordinance went into effect on Oct. 1 following a moratorium, requiring Blockfusion to apply for additional permits that “may take several months to process.” According to Bit Digital, the Blockfusion facility was one …
