Bitcoin rally hopes diminish as pro traders flip bearish, retail interest at 12-month lows
Bitcoin (BTC) has been trapped in a symmetrical triangle for 56 days and the trend change could last until early-May, according to price technicals. Currently, the support level stands at $38,000, while the triangle resistance for daily close stands at $43,600. Bitcoin mining up, retail interest down The week started with a positive achievement for the Bitcoin network as the Lightning Network capacity reached a record-high 3,500 BTC. This solution allows extremely cheap and instant transactions on a secondary layer, known as off-chain processing. After cryptocurrency mining activities were banned in China in 2021, publicly-listed companies in the United States …

Ethereum price finally topped $3K, but data suggests a reversal is nowhere in sight
There is an old saying in traditional markets which is actually more like a trading rule. It goes, “when the trend is negative, one can only be neutral or short,” meaning bet on the price decrease. The problem is that a relief bounce tricks traders into believing that the negative prevailing sentiment has shifted into a buyers’ market. For example, after analyzing Ether's (ETH) price chart, one might conclude that after a 41% crash, a bull run should be ignited sooner rather than later. Unfortunately, this is a bit of a fallacy because markets can exist in periods of non-definition …

Bitcoin bulls aim to capture $45K leading into Friday’s $890M BTC options expiry
Bitcoin (BTC) bulls flipped the table on Friday's options expiry after a 14% rally on Feb. 28. Holding the price above $43,000 confirms a decoupling from traditional markets. For instance, the MSCI Emerging Markets equities index is down by 3.5% in 5 days, while the United States Russell 2000 small-capitalization index gained 0.9%. Investors are increasingly concerned about the ramifications of the U.S. Federal Reserve rate hikes expected throughout 2022. As a result, in the past 30 days some big names took a hit. For instance, Paypal PYPL traded down 38%, META corrected 34%, and Shopify SHOP lost 31.5%. The …

2 key derivatives metrics signal that Bitcoin traders expect BTC to hold $40K
Whenever Bitcoin (BTC) fails to break through important resistance levels, traders gain confidence and add to their altcoin positions. The logic is that, unless BTC drops significatively, these movements historically provide decent rewards for those shifting their portfolios toward higher risk. In the past seven days, the aggregate market capitalization performance of the cryptocurrency market showed a modest 3% increase to $1.78 trillion. This number is roughly in line with the performance seen from Bitcoin, Ether (ETH), and Binance Coin (BNB). However, comparing the winners and losers among the top-80 coins provides skewed results. For instance, while the gainers captured …

Ethereum price holds above $3K but network data suggests bulls may get trapped
When analyzing Ether's (ETH) price chart, one could conclude that the 3-month long bearish trend has been broken for a few reasons. The current $3,100 price range represents a 43% recovery in 15 days and, more importantly, the descending channel resistance was ruptured on Feb. 7. Should Ether bulls start celebrating and calling for $4,000 and higher? That largely depends on how retail traders are positioned, along with the Ethereum network's on-chain metrics. For instance, is the $30-plus transaction fee impacting the use of decentralized applications (dApps), or are there any other factors that will prohibit Ether's price growth? Since …

This bullish Ethereum options trade targets $3.1K ETH price with zero liquidation risk
Ether price (ETH) spent the last two months stuck in a rut and even the most bullish trader will admit that the possibility of trading above $4,400 in the next couple of months is dim. Of course, cryptocurrency traders are notoriously optimistic and it is not unusual for them to expect another $4,870 all-time high, but this seems like an unrealistic outcome. Despite the current bearish trend, there are still reasons to be moderately bullish for the next couple of months and using a “long condor with call options” strategy might yield a positive outcome. Options strategies allows the investor …

Bitcoin price closes in on $40K, but pro traders are still skeptical
The Bitcoin (BTC) daily price chart seems to be making a steady recovery pattern, but some concerning indicators are coming from derivatives markets. At the moment, the futures and options markets are showing a lack of confidence from Bitcoin pro traders, but there's a positive spin to the data. The road to $40,000 seems uncomfortably predictable, and cryptocurrency traders usually call it "manipulation" when such price movements happen. If you #bitcoin around that region, just be careful. A picture speaks a thousands words and I think mine says it all. Make it or break it time around the corner for …

Bitcoin leverage ratio reaches new highs
The estimated leverage ratio for Bitcoin (BTC) hit a new all-time high last night according to CryptoQuant. Further metrics point to growing leveraged interest, but liquidations have remained relatively low. According to on-chain analytics resource CryptoQuant, while the Bitcoin price fell off a cliff over the past 24 hours, the estimated leverage ratio reached 0.224, an all-time high. The metric works by dividing exchanges’ open interest by their coin reserve. The result shows how much leverage traders are using on average. A higher ratio, such as 0.22, indicates that more investors are taking high leverage risks. Conversely, lower values mean …

Analysts say Bitcoin’s open interest wipeout ‘will give way to further upside’
The weekend is upon us and fear remains the dominant short-term sentiment in the cryptocurrency market. Earlier today Bitcoin (BTC) price dropped to $47,250 and investors are biting their nails after data from the U.S. consumer price index (CPI) shows inflation reaching a forty-year high at 6.8%. Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView shows that a midday push by bulls to reclaim the $50,000 support level was handily defeated and sellers sent the price back below $48,000 which could possibly force another daily lower high for the top-ranked cryptocurrency. With the prospect of a major run up in price …

$1.1B in Bitcoin options expire on Friday, but data points to a sub-$55K BTC price
Bitcoin (BTC) bulls are still licking their wounds from the bloody Dec. 4 correction which saw the price collapse from $57,000 all the way to $42,000. This 26.5% downside move caused $850 million in long BTC futures contracts to be liquidated, but more importantly, it shifted the “Fear and Greed index” to its lowest level since July 21. It is somehow strange to compare both events, as the July 21 sub $30,000 low would have erased the entire gains in 2021. Meanwhile, the $42,000 low from Dec. 4 is still a 44% gain year-to-date. Compare this against the S&P 500 …

New Bitcoin ETFs filed: One for bears, the other with ‘leverage for ants’
Exchange-traded fund issuer Direxion has filed for a product that would enable speculators to buy contracts that short the price of Bitcoin. In a filing made to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Oct. 26, the company unveiled the Direxion Bitcoin Strategy Bear ETF. Like other futures products, it will not invest directly in BTC, but will instead maintain managed short exposure position contracts issued by the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). Direxion stated that the fund may invest in other BTC futures, money market funds, deposit accounts, or short-term debt instruments. However, the firm did issue a dire warning …
