Although digital currencies have skyrocketed in value throughout the year, Nvidia has not made any significant profits from its cryptocurrency mining processor (CMP) line. According to Nvidia's third fiscal quarter report, the company's CMP sales dropped by 60% sequentially in the most recent quarter, with sales of the product line expected to drop even further in the fourth quarter. In its quarterly financial statement, Nvidia said CMP sales fell from $266 million in the second quarter to $105 million in Q3, which ended in October. Nvidia claims to have made $526 million in revenue throughout the product's existence, roughly 3% …
Nvidia beat the expectations by generating over $6.5 billion in revenue, but the chip manufacturer missed the target for its crypto-mining GPU line. The California-based tech giant announced its financial results for its second fiscal quarter ended Aug. 1, 2021. Key highlights include $6.51 billion in revenue, 15% up from the first quarter, and $1.04 billion earnings, both largely bolstered by gaming, data center and professional visualization equipment sales. With the addition of GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti, the gaming segment led the record growth with $3.06 billion in revenue and an 85% growth from last year. …
Twelve months ago, the total value of cryptocurrency locked in staking programs was barely more than $1 billion. Today, there is $58 billion locked in decentralized finance, or DeFi. The adoption of DeFi has been a sea change that’s helped push the crypto industry into the mainstream, but it’s hardly the only one. Mainstream institutions including MicroStrategy and Tesla have poured billions of dollars into Bitcoin — and some have been buying the dip — while nonfungible tokens have evolved from CryptoKitties and CypherPunks to an artistic medium pulling in millions in bids for a new generation of digital artists …
Jameson Lopp, co-founder and CTO of Casa, a crypto custody firm has released a test result report on Bitcoin multi-signature hardware signing performance on the Casa blog on Sep. 13. The result shows that hardware crypto wallet devices can handle small, simple transactions well. However, they have trouble performing once the transaction becomes complicated. Casa is said to be built upon geographically distributed multisig, dedicated hardware devices to secure keys, designed user experience, and client services. Lopp pointed out that while the company has no control over the hardware devices, the goal is to support any device at the end …
Kraken Security Labs revealed on Jan 31. that Trezor hardware wallets and their derivatives can be hacked to extract private keys. Though the procedure is quite involved, Kraken claims that it “requires just 15 minutes of physical access to the device.” The attack requires a physical intervention on the Trezor wallet by either extracting its chip and placing it on a special device or soldering a couple of critical connectors. The Trezor chip must then be connected to a “glitcher device” that would send it signals at specific moments. These break the built-in protection that prevents the chip’s memory from …
A blockchain platform and an oracle service provider have unveiled plans to leverage each other’s products — improving their respective offerings. High Performance Blockchain (HPB) says it is the world’s first blockchain company to blend dedicated hardware with software. Meanwhile, the Chainlink network specializes in middleware solutions that ensure on-chain smart contracts have access to in-demand, off-chain resources. Presently, HPB claims everyday organizations struggle to ensure that data between on-chain and off-chain environments is exchanged securely and reliably. The platform says this can be addressed through the use of oracles — third-party digital agents that retrieve, format and exchange data …

Prague-based crypto wallet manufacturer Trezor has responded to а report about hardware vulnerabilities from its competitor Ledger on Tuesday, March 12. Trezor claims that none of the weaknesses revealed by Ledger in a detailed report on March 10, are critical for hardware wallets. As per Trezor, none of them can be exploited remotely, as the attacks described require “physical access to the device, specialized equipment, time, and technical expertise.” Trezor further cites the results of a recent security survey performed in partnership with major cryptocurrency exchange Binance. According to the survey, only around 6 percent of respondents believe that physical …
Major hardware wallets manufacturer Ledger has unveiled vulnerabilities in its direct competitor Trezor’s devices, according to a report published on Monday, March. 11. As of press time, Trezor was not immediately available to comment on Ledger’s findings. The study states that the vulnerabilities were found by Attack Lab, the company’s department that hacks into both its own and competitors’ devices to improve security. Ledger claims that it has repeatedly addressed Trezor about weaknesses in their Trezor One and Trezor T wallets, and has decided to make them public after the responsible disclosure period ended. The first issue is related to …

At the same time, the product will use Intel’s hardware, such as Xeon processors and …
Ethereum (ETH) core developers have delayed the decision to implement Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC)-resistant proof-of-work (PoW) algorithm ProgPoW. According to an Ethereum core developer meeting on Feb. 1, the team wants to wait until the algorithm is audited by a third party. Ethereum core developer Hudson Jameson declared during the call that “there is a group forming or multiple groups forming to perform an independent audit on ProgPoW.” He explained that the audit is an attempt to establish how effective the algorithm would be in leveling the playing field for different kinds of hardware used to mine crypto, including GPUs, …
