Ethereum developers have pushed back the highly-anticipated Shanghai hard fork by approximately two weeks. Initially estimated for late March, the Shanghai upgrade will now likely be deployed sometime within the first two weeks of April. The delay was announced at an Ethereum developer meeting on Mar. 2. During the meeting, core developers came to the consensus that the hard fork would occur about a fortnight after the Goerli testnet launch, which has been slated for Mar. 14. The Goerli testnet will be the final dress rehearsal for the Shanghai hard fork before it is rolled out on the mainnet. So …
The price of Ethereum's native token, Ether (ETH), shows a growing conflict among traders about the market direction for March. This uncertainty has resulted in ETH price consolidating inside a narrow sideways range between $1,600 and $1,700 since Feb. 15. 25% ETH price correction on the table in March The uncertainty stems from Ethereum's long-awaited Shanghai upgrade going live some time in March. Several analysts predict Shanghai's token unlock feature, which will enable stakers to withdraw their vested tokens from Ethereum's proof-of-stake smart contract, will trigger a short-term selloff event. The Ethereum PoS smart contract has attracted more than 17.4 …
The Ethereum blockchain's Sepolia testnet has undergone a successful upgrade that simulates the upcoming Shanghai hard fork that is expected to take place in March on the network's mainnet. The "Shapella" upgrade, which combines the names of the upcoming Shanghai and Capella hard forks, was successfully implemented on the testnet on Feb. 28. Sepolia testnet has successfully upgraded to Shapella! Some of the Prsym validators are offline due to the old geth version. They will come online in the next 10 mins! The percentage of Ethereum blocks complying with orders set by the United States Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) has now fallen to 47% — the lowest since Oct. 11. The latest milestone in reversing censorship comes nearly three months after the percentage of OFAC-compliant blocks reached its peak at 79% on Nov. 21. OFAC-compliant blocks are those that exclude transactions involving parties sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control. A fall in compliant blocks could be seen as a win for those that oppose censorship within the Ethereum ecosystem. In a statement, blockchain consulting firm …
Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution Polygon will undergo a hard fork on Jan. 17 in order to address gas spikes and chain reorganizations issues that has affected user experience on the Polygon proof-of-stake (POS) chain. Polygon officially confirmed the hard fork event in Jan. 12 a blog post, which came after weeks of preliminary discussion on Polygon Improvement Proposal (PIP) forum page in late December. GET READY FOR THE HARDFORK The proposed hardfork for the #Polygon PoS chain will make key upgrades to the network on Jan 17th. This is good news for devs & users -- & will make for …
Ether (ETH) price technicals suggest that 35% gains are in play by March 2022 due to several bullish technical and fundamental factors. Ethereum price rises above two key moving averages On Jan. 8, Ether's price crossed above its 21-week exponential moving average (21-week EMA; the purple wave) and 200-day simple moving average (200-day SMA; the orange wave). Historically, these two moving averages have separated bull and bear markets. When ETH price trades above them, it is considered to be in a bull market, and vice versa. The last time when Ether crossed above its 21-week EMA and 200-day SMA was …
Cryptocurrencies have suffered immensely in 2022 from the onslaught of a hawkish Federal Reserve and the implosions of crypto platforms FTX, Terra, Celsius Network, and others. What were the most-searched cryptocurrencies in 2022? Notably, the market valuation of all the cryptocurrencies combined has dropped 70% year-to-date (YTD) to nearly $770 billion, signifying massive capitulations by traders and investors alike. The waning demand has also pushed the internet requests fo6r the keyword "buy cryptocurrency" to their lowest since February 2020, according to Google Trends. Nonetheless, the latest Accenture's 2022 Global Consumer Payments report shows that retail interest in cryptocurrencies remains high …
For all the progress that has been made in DeFi, the industry currently stands at something of a crossroads. Since its peak last year, TVL in DeFi has shrunk from around $150 billion to where it is now, around $50 billion. The turmoil has coincided with global trends that have affected industries across the board, but the challenges faced by DeFi are unique, especially given how young a sector it is. Few question that DeFi has the potential to transform finance in a way that is more equitable for all involved. The big question, though, is how exactly can DeFi’s …
A hard fork to the BNB Smart Chain, the blockchain of crypto exchange Binance, will take place as a fix for the exploit that drained the platform of an estimated $100 million on Oct. 6, according to a post on GitHub. The release for mainnet and testnet is a "temporary urgent patch to mitigate the cross-chain infrastructure between Beacon Chain and Smart Chain", said the post, aiming to re-enable the cross-chain back. The BNB hard fork, dubbed Moran, will take place at block height 22,107,423 — estimated to occur on Oct. 12 at 4:00am EST . Changes will include fixing …
Ethereum blockchain shifted from a proof-of-work (PoW) to a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus mechanism on Sept. 15, 2022. Along with this move, ETHPoW, a distinct PoW blockchain (basically the old pre-Merge Ethereum) forked from Ethereum's Merge, became live. This forked version of Ethereum aims to maintain the proof-of-work mining process for ETH miners. Any miner is permitted to add a block to the PoW network with the clear stipulation that the first valid block published is the correct one. In reality, more than one legitimate block is occasionally discovered by the network due to the latency of data propagation, creating numerous …
ETHW has logged a significant price rebound despite its blockchain network, ETHPoW, suffering a smart contract hack in the first week of its launch. The short analysis of the attackhttps://t.co/87OVRqaYb2 https://t.co/vhRJyZVc72 — BlockSec (@BlockSecTeam) September 18, 2022 Bull trap risks surround ETHW market ETHW rebounded more than 150% eight days after the attack and traded for around $10.30 on Sep. 27. Fundamentally, this suggests that traders ignored the hack and trusted ETHPoW's long-term viability as a blockchain project. But from a technical perspective, the ETHW price rally has accompanied weaker trading volumes. In other words, fewer traders have been involved …
After several delays and some setbacks, Cardano’s long-awaited Vasil upgrade finally went live on Sept. 22. From the outside looking in, the hard fork is designed to help improve the ecosystem’s scalability and general transaction throughput capacity as well as advance Cardano’s decentralized applications (DApps) development capacity. To commemorate the event, an announcement was made by blockchain firm Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK) — which currently oversees the design, building and maintenance of the Cardano platform — just minutes after the development. To obtain a more holistic overview of what the upgrade represents and its potential impact on Cardano (as …
