FTX acquisition no more: Canadian exchange Bitvo backs off the deal
The Canadian cryptocurrency exchange Bitvo has terminated its expected acquisition agreement with FTX to continue operating independently. Bitvo’s shareholder, Pateno Payments, has discontinued the acquisition deal with FTX Canada and FTX Trading in accordance with the agreement terms, Bitvo announced on Nov. 15. The firm emphasized that its operations have not been affected as Bitvo has no material exposure to FTX or any of its affiliated entities. Aussie treasurer promises crypto regulation next year amid FTX debacle
The Australian government has doubled down on its commitment towards a robust regulatory framework for crypto following the catastrophic collapse of FTX last week. Australia’s financial markets regulator has suspended FTX Australia’s financial license following the appointment of a voluntary administrator to help nearly 30,000 Australians and 132 Australian companies get their funds back from tFTX. FDIC acting chair says no crypto firms or tokens are backed by agency
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation acting chair Martin Gruenberg said the agency does not back any crypto firms in the United States, nor does its insurance cover losses from tokens. Australia’s market regulator has released a list of the “top-10 ways to spot a crypto scam," amid a detected rise in crypto-related investment scams this year.
