FunFair (FUN) gains 183% as the blockchain-based gaming industry grows
Many DApps and blockchain-based games are designed with casino-style and RPG features that allow players to use cryptocurrency for gambling. FunFair is essentially a white-label, turnkey blockchain-based casino and the platform aims to provide services with zero set-up fees and no monthly minimums. The platform’s native FUN token is the fuel behind every function on the FunFair platform and players need to use it to place bets, and winnings are also paid out in the same way. FUN tokens are used to compensate game developers and pay for fees and services to affiliates and within the game. Since Jan. 28, …

New token tied to value of AAVE aims to simplify DeFi for users
A DeFi ecosystem is launching a token that delivers a new way of gaining exposure to this continually growing space. The rAAVE token is being launched by GrowthDeFi on Feb. 7 — and it has a target price of 1 AAVE. A rebasing mechanism provides adjustments on a daily basis. This means that the supply of rAAVE increases whenever its price exceeds 1 AAVE — and in such a positive scenario, token balances are adjusted accordingly, with 10% of newly minted tokens going to the project’s treasury. If rAAVE’s price falls below 1 AAVE, supply subsequently decreases. Proceeds generated by …

Mark Cuban issues burn notice on offensive ENS domain
Someone sent Mark Cuban a profane Ethereum Name Service domain a few days ago. After observant Twitter users recently tracked down his ether address, it was only a matter of time before a wave of unwanted spam transactions made their way into his account. This is, after all, the internet. Here there be monsters. While it isn’t entirely clear what the presumed troll’s endgame was, the word was nonetheless offensive enough to raise some eyebrows at Cointelegraph, and we don’t intend to reprint it here. Suffice to say, a decent person would not want to be known as the owner …

Run, blockchain, run! DeFi adoption needs faster block times
Global companies are implementing distributed ledger technologies in an attempt to gain efficiencies in areas such as global payments and supply chain transparency. Blockchain tech can replace slow, paper-based processes, as well as improve security. However, many of the platforms in use today suffer from poor design. Networks become clogged with traffic too easily, resulting in latency issues and, ultimately, a sub-par user experience. According to a 2019 McKinsey report, there are now over 20 billion connected devices in the world, all of which “require management, storage and retrieval of data.” However, blockchain design is ill-equipped to handle this immense …

Pragmatism: The true key to unlocking crypto mass adoption
When Bitcoin (BTC) launched in 2009, it was motivated by the distrust of financial institutions and their fees and the inflationary practices by central banks during the Great Recession. Bitcoin was supposed to usher in an era of decentralization, financial inclusion and democratization. Yet more than a decade later, with Bitcoin prices surging, we’re witnessing the digital asset being hoarded by large, centralized financial institutions, risking the principles behind its creation. Bitcoin is now in danger of being predominantly in the domain of the financially included — exactly the types of institutions that the creators sought to avoid in the …

ConsenSys partners with China’s Blockchain-based Service Network
ConsenSys, one of the world’s largest blockchain software companies, has partnered with the Blockchain-based Service Network, a Chinese government-backed nationwide blockchain project, As part of the partnership, ConsenSys’ Ethereum-based distributed ledger protocol, ConsenSys Quorum, will be featured in the BSN ecosystem, the firm announced on Monday. The protocol will be available in 80 different cities through the BSN’s public city nodes across mainland China. ConsenSys director Charles d’Haussy told Cointelegraph that ConsenSys Quorum will be available in all major cities and provinces, including Beijing, Xiong’an and Hangzhou. ConsenSys’ GoQuorum — an open-source Ethereum client and part of ConsenSys Quorum — …

Clever Aave to Matic bridge keeps track of yields
The first Aave-friendly Ethereum to Matic bridge has opened for business, allowing users to port Aave’s interest-bearing aTokens back and forth between the DeFi protocol and the faster, cheaper layer-two network. The smart contract for the bridge was developed by Nick Mudge, Lead Solidity Developer of Aavegotchi. It differs from previous Ethereum to layer-two bridges as it interacts with the Aave protocol to keep track of interest being paid on aTokens locked up on the Ethereum side of the bridge. According to Mudge, the bridge’s smart contract converts user’s Aave aTokens — such as aUSDC, for example — to maTokens, …

Crypto project brings apps and smart contracts to Bitcoin
A blockchain project says it makes Bitcoin programmable in a way that it hasn’t been before — enabling apps and smart contracts to be brought to the network. Stacks (formerly known as Blockstack) aims to position BTC as the foundation for a better internet that’s owned by users. Those behind this ecosystem argue that the internet is broken, with tech giants dominating the landscape. Stacks is a Layer 1 blockchain that uses Bitcoin’s infrastructure as a secure base layer. Smart contracts and apps can be enabled with little modification, with “minimal transaction load” on the network. Underpinning how scalable Stacks …

Exodus of key staff from Aragon amid philosophical differences
It’s been a rough week for the Aragon governance platform where philosophical differences have brought about a long list of resignations. Aragon co-founder Jorge Izquierdo announced on Jan. 11 he would no longer be working as CEO of the for-profit Aragon One, a company dedicated to building tools and services related to Aragon. Aragon is an Ethereum-based platform involved with decentralized governance. The announcement took place just hours after news broke that Aragon had purchased Dvote Labs, the company behind blockchain voting protocol Vocdoni. Today I resigned as Aragon One's CEO. Leading this team has been the privilege and adventure …

From Uniswap to Axies, these 6 DApps blew us away in 2020
With the crypto market making a crazy comeback this year, an increasing number of casual investors all over the world are beginning to understand the potential that blockchain technology possesses. For example, over the course of 2020, decentralized applications gained a remarkable amount of traction, with the total locked volume across all decentralized exchanges rising from under $40 million back in December 2019 to a whopping more than $26 billion within a span of just nine months. However, it’s important to understand the core concepts underlying decentralized finance, or DeFi, and decentralized applications, or DApps, as many routinely use the …

Universal Passport gives devs and users access to multiple blockchains
A public blockchain ecosystem has unveiled a Universal Passport that it believes will solve one of the industry’s biggest challenges: interoperability. Nervos says that its technology is compatible with existing standards, meaning that users who want to move assets from one network to another — or use apps based on different blockchains — will no longer need to contend with multiple interfaces and multiple identities. The company’s co-founder, Kevin Wang, told Cointelegraph: “We want to meet users where they are instead of asking them to get used to the interfaces that fit into the underlying plumbing or infrastructure.” Key elements …

Why contests are better than grants for a healthy crypto community
What can contests be used for? Grants are normally reserved for developing infrastructure, apps and other tools, but Free TON says this means other important areas are overlooked. The network’s mantra is to use contests for everything from validators and software development to marketing and social media strategies. An added benefit of this approach is how it enables Free TON community members to find something that they’re passionate about — and make a meaningful contribution to making it happen.
