Bitcoin (BTC) continued its decline further into the week as BTC clung to the $40,000 support level on Feb. 18. BTC price up-down debate "mostly noise" While many analysts anticipated BTC's price to fall towards $30,000 next, mostly based on technicals, Jurrien Timmer of Fidelity Investments lambasted the downside bias, calling it "mostly noise." Bitcoin has been in a choppy trading range for almost a year now, bouncing between 30k and 65k. The up-or-down debate continues to be a favorite hobby for many, but it’s mostly noise. For Bitcoin, the network is what matters. Let's dig deeper. pic.twitter.com/ipWumuRSya — Jurrien …
El Salvador, the first nation to adopt Bitcoin (BTC) as legal tender, has recently announced the relaunch of its wallet app Chivo, which is supposed to patch the previous version’s stability and scalability issues. The update is welcomed news for the Central American country’s crypto experiment, which faced some hurdles and harsh criticism over the last few months. While much of the observers’ attention has been focused on aspects such as retail adoption of crypto and geopolitical implications of Bitcoin’s legal status in El Salvador, the progress of the nation’s mining industry toward achieving President Bukele’s moonshot vision has been …
Hackers have continued to exploit a critical vulnerability in the cross-chain router protocol (CRP) Multichain that first appeared on Jan 17. Earlier this week, Multichain urged users to revoke approvals for six tokens to protect their assets from being exploited by malicious individuals. However Multichain's announcement on Jan. 17 encouraged more hackers to try the exploit. One stole $1.43 million, another offered to return 80% while keeping the rest as a tip. According to Tal Be’ery, the co-founder of the ZenGo wallet, the stolen amount has now risen to $3 million. The @MultichainOrg hack is far from being over. Over …
While key Bitcoin (BTC) metrics don’t paint a pretty picture, the bears could be running on fumes. Contrary to analysts warning that Bitcoin could dip to $38,000 “before an eventual breakout”, CoinShares and Arcane Research suggest that the tide could be turning. In brief, Bitcoin institutional outflows were negative four out of the last five weeks, totaling $55 milion. The total assets under management fell to a three-month low of $35 billion midweek last week. CoinShares' findings illustrate that large investors in the Bitcoin ecosystem; those using companies such as Grayscale, CoinsXBT, ProShares, and ETC Group have been reducing their …
Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Rus', the leader of the Russian Orthodox Church, has not urged his flock to invest in Bitcoin, despite videos claiming otherwise. A clip recently emerged claiming that Kirill had urged the faithful to invest in cryptocurrencies. While the video does include genuine comments from the patriarch regarding the benefits of robotics for the economy, and a mention of Bitcoin (BTC), the comments were heavily edited, with the narrator further claiming that the leader would bless those who wish to invest in crypto in a special service at a Moscow church. The church's top media …
According to some estimates, as many as 20% of Americans were invested in cryptocurrencies as of August 2021. While the exact number can vary significantly from one poll to another, it is clear that cryptocurrencies are no longer just a niche passion project for tech enthusiasts or a tool for financial speculation. Rather, digital assets have become a widespread investment vehicle with the prospect of becoming mainstream. Optimistic as that is, this level of mass adoption still does not enjoy a commensurate political representation, with senior United States politicians largely lagging behind the curve of crypto adoption. This makes the …
Crypto is no longer an obscure asset class within the financial ecosystem, but a growing correlation with the stock market undercuts the “investment hedge” role of Bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies, according to new International Money Fund (IMF) research. A blog post accompanying the survey highlights new risks associated with the growing interconnectedness between virtual assets and financial markets. Penned by IMF Monetary and Capital Markets Department director Tobias Adrian as well as economist Tara Iyer and Research deputy division chief Mahvash S. Qureshi, the article claims that the increasing correlation between crypto assets and stocks “limits their perceived risk …
