El Salvador’s ‘limited’ use of Bitcoin prevents forecasted risks, suggests IMF
El Salvador has been advised to exercise caution in expanding government exposure to Bitcoin (BTC) due to the “speculative nature” of crypto markets by the global monetary watchdog. A Feb. 10 statement from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) emphasized that Bitcoin’s risks in El Salvador have “not materialized” yet due to its “limited” use so far, after IMF staff visited the country last week. It was suggested that El Salvador address these risks as Bitcoin’s use “could grow” given it has been recognised as legal tender in the country since Sept. 2021. El Salvador was warned to re-evaluate its plan …

Bitcoin miners as energy buyers, explained
How do renewable energy resources benefit Bitcoin mining in rural areas? Renewable energy sources offer a more reliable power supply for Bitcoin mining operations since they are less prone to experiencing power disruptions. Additionally, using sustainable energy for Bitcoin mining can support job growth and economic expansion in rural areas. In the context of Bitcoin, gridless computing, which refers to the usage of alternative computing resources such as edge devices, can encourage the use of renewable energy resources to mine BTC in Africa. That said, gridless computing offers an alternative to the centralized electrical grid, which is often unreliable or …

Bitcoin is already in its 'next bull market cycle' — Pantera Capital
BItcoin (BTC) is beginning its “seventh bull cycle” and investors should not be scared of crypto post-FTX, Pantera Capital believes. In its latest “Blockchain Letter” on Feb. 8, the asset management firm’s CEO, Dan Morehead, predicted that 2023 would be a “year for rebuilding trust.” Morehead: Cryptoassets have "seen the lows" this cycle With BTC price action retracing slightly after gaining 40% in January, some market participants still insist that new macro lows are due across crypto assets. While the timing for such a scenario varies, consensus remains absent when it comes to how the market will rebound. For Morehead, …

Bitcoin logo imperfection found on original artwork after 12 years
While Satoshi Nakamoto is credited as the anonymous creator of Bitcoin (BTC), what often goes unnoticed are the selfless contributions of the community members — miners, developers, designers, hodlers and investors — that help materialize the original vision. However, one such significant contribution was found to carry an imperfection for over 12 years, invisible to the naked eye. On Nov. 12, 2010, bitcointalk.org member bitboy (not related to YouTuber BitBoy Crypto) posted the vector files of the iconic Bitcoin logo, which has been widely accepted worldwide. While Bitcoiners preach the “zoom out” narrative during crypto bear markets, zooming in on …

Bitcoin price correction was overdue — Analysts outline why the end of 2023 will be bullish
Bitcoin (BTC) price and the wider crypto market corrected at the start of this week, giving back a small portion of the gains accrued in January, but it’s safe to say that the more experienced traders expected some sort of technical correction. What was unexpected was the SEC’s Feb. 9 enforcement against Kraken exchange and the regulator’s announcement that staking-as-service programs are unregulated securities. The crypto market sold-off on the news and given Kraken’s decision to close up 100% of its staking services, traders are concerned that Coinbase will eventually be forced to do the same. The real question is, …

On Feb. 9, United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chair Gary Gensler explained why the regulator had cracked down on Kraken cryptocurrency exchange, forcing it to stop its crypto staking program for U.S. clients. This news may have rattled crypto investors and they sold aggressively. Bitcoin (BTC) crashed about 5% on Feb. 9 and several altcoins also followed suit. The fresh round of selling has traders wondering whether the bear market has resumed or if the dip should be interpreted as a buying opportunity. This question may be troubling to investors, but for now the correction looks to be …

What is a coinbase transaction?
How coinbase transactions are structured Coinbase transactions are structured as the first transaction in a block, where the miner includes a newly minted amount of BTC as a reward for their effort in solving a complex mathematical problem to validate transactions and create a new block on the blockchain. Coinbase transactions have a special format. Compared to a regular transaction input, a coinbase transaction has a different set of values that do not represent unspent transaction output (UTXO). As such, in place of a transaction hash, a coinbase transaction will have 32 bytes, all set to zero. The output index …

"All eyes" on 200-day moving averages Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView followed BTC/USD as it tracked sideways following a volatile 24 hours’ trading. Existing market weakness was compounded by an announcement from U.S. regulators concerning Ethereum (ETH) staking, with major crypto exchange Kraken forced to suspend its staking operations and pay a $30 million fine.
