Grassroots initiatives are bringing Bitcoin education to communities across America
Bitcoin is becoming one of the biggest buzzwords in the world. Data from a July 2021 survey conducted by analysis firm Exploding Topics found that roughly 1,700 American adults, or 89% of participants, had heard of Bitcoin. A recent survey from the cryptocurrency platform Paxful also found that 95% of women out of 1,555 females polled in the United States were familiar with Bitcoin. While Bitcoin’s (BTC) presence is notable, there still seems to be a lack of understanding regarding BTC and cryptocurrency. For instance, Paxful’s survey discovered that 43% of women polled in the United States want to learn …

BTC stocks correlation 'not what we want' — 5 things to know in Bitcoin this week
Bitcoin (BTC) starts the second week of April with a whimper as bulls struggle to retain support above $40,000. After a refreshingly low-volatility weekend, the latest weekly close saw market nerves return, and in classic style, BTC/USD fell in the final hours of Sunday. There is a feeling of being caught between two stools for the average hodler currently — macro forces promise major trend shifts but are being slow to play out, while “serious” buyer demand is also absent from cryptoassets more broadly. At the same time, those on the inside show no hint of doubt about the future, …

Water great idea! Bitcoin mining heats this swimming pool
A Bitcoiner has "pooled" off another mining innovation. The 'waste' heat generated by mining Bitcoin (BTC) is used to warm his swimming pool. Bitcoin enthusiast Jonathan Yuan had kids who “love swimming, but the year before [he started using waste heat], they barely ever did it because it was always too cold for them.” Fortunately, he was interested in Bitcoin mining and understood that Bitcoin mining emits a lot of heat. Yuan told Cointelegraph that he purchased a “heat exchanger and setup some ASICs,” (application-specific integrated circuits), and subsequently managed to keep “the pool above 90F all summer.” The process …

One-fifth of global Bitcoin hash rate is now controlled by listed companies
A recent report has shown that nearly one-fifth of the total share of Bitcoin’s hash rate now belongs to publicly-listed mining companies. The report, published by Arcane Research, details that publicly-listed Bitcoin (BTC) mining companies now account for 19% of Bitcoin’s total hash rate, growing considerably from a mere 3% in Jan. last year. The term hash rate refers to the total computing power used by a miner’s computing equipment to confirm a transaction. Twitter debates the role of renewable energy in Bitcoin mining
It all started with a tweet by Dennis Porter, podcast host and self-described Bitcoin advocate, that led to a heady discussion about renewable energy and the role of Bitcoin miners. Porter asserted that Bitcoin (BTC) creates incentives to build out renewables, but environmental scientist Peter Gleick rebuffed the statement as a "self-serving lie." The comments section got heated when Nic Carter, Castle Island Ventures general partner and Coin Metrics co-founder, entered the chat and called out Gleick for allegedly not knowing anything about energy. Tell me you don’t know anything about energy without telling me — nic no credentials carter …

Gryphon and Sphere 3D merger scrapped but carbon-neutral mining continues
Despite the canceled merger between Gryphon Digital Mining and Sphere 3D, the two firms still intend on building out carbon-neutral Bitcoin mining operations. An April 4 joint statement from the two crypto mining companies revealed that scrapping the merger was a mutual decision “due to changing market conditions, the passage of time, and the relative financial positions of the companies.” The cancellation will apparently not stop either company from moving forward with plans on building carbon-neutral Bitcoin (BTC) mining facilities. The merger was announced last June and would have seen the two companies become one under the Gryphon name. It …
