The Bitcoin Core development team released the latest update on Nov. 24 to Bitcoin (BTC)’s original software client — the nineteenth in the coin’s eleven-year history. Sorry BitPay, New Bitcoin Upgrade Proposal Disables BIP70 by Default
Cryptocurrency payment processor BitPay may soon find it harder to do business as developers plan to remove support for the way it creates payment addresses. BitPay address support may disappear from Bitcoin In a GitHub discussion about the future 0.19.0 release of the Bitcoin Core client, developers continued plans to disable BIP70 by default, and possibly remove it altogether in a later version. BitMEX Owner Awards $60K Grant to Bitcoin Developer Michael Ford
Bitcoin Core contributor Michael Ford, aka “fanquake,” has been awarded a $60,000 grant by the parent firm of top crypto derivatives platform BitMEX. In an official announcement published on July 12, BitMEX owner and operator HDR Global Trading revealed its decision to award Ford the grant, noting that he has just recently been made the latest official maintainer of the Bitcoin Core software project. Ethereum Has More Than Twice as Many Core Devs per Month as Bitcoin, Report Says
Ethereum (ETH) has the most developers working on its base protocol of all cryptocurrencies, not counting community project developers, according to a report by crypto asset management firm Electric Capital. The report was published in a Medium post on March 7. Per the post, the company fingerprinted over 20,000 code repositories and 16 million commits to obtain data, which reveals that on average 216 developers contribute code to ETH repositories every month. Blockstream Publishes Schnorr-Based Test Code for Bitcoin Blockchain Upgrade
The Schnorr-based multi-signature scheme MuSig, a test code for a potential upgrade to the Bitcoin (BTC) blockchain, has been released by blockchain tech firm Blockstream, according to an announcement published on Feb. 18. Bitcoin Core has released an update following the recent detection of a vulnerability in the software, according to a September 18 press release by the Bitcoin Core Project. According to the statement, Bitcoin Core 0.16.3 was released with a fix for a denial-of-service (DoS) vulnerability. Bitcoin Core version 0.16.1, a new major version including new features and performance improvements, has been officially released, according to an announcement made June 15.
