Comic-Con guru explains why storytelling is the key component for successful NFT projects
In the most recent episode, Comic-Con legend, Gareb Shamus discusses how he has used storytelling to build engagement and a “maker world” that grows and strengthens communities. What started off as a newsletter about comics, founder Gareb Shamus’ passion project, ultimately became known to the world as a magazine titled Wizard. According to Shamus, Wizard was the outlet in which he could “create a voice” and share with his friends the things he had discovered that excited him. Shamus touched on the importance of building elements of engagement and not limiting creativity within communities to further “unite them around what …

NFT pics are the funhouse mirror high-end art deserves
The funny thing about many of the absolutely insane things happening in the world today is that from a certain perspective, they actually make perfect sense. Take the famous brands buying metaverse real estate, for example. At first glance, it makes no sense at all. At second glance, assuming the user base of the respective projects grows over time, it’s like buying an ad banner on a website, just at a higher markup. Considering how many headlines you get on the purchase, the purchase becomes quite sensible even if you do nothing with your plot of virtual land. It’s quite …

Purrfect match: The story of a young girl’s love of cats and NFTs
For all the cynical narratives that circulate the mainstream zeitgeist, which perceives nonfungible tokens (NFTs) as little more than means of inflating capitalistic principles, every so often projects emerge that disprove those absolute assumptions and serve as reminders of the essence, soul and founding purpose of the space. For Amelia, a 9-year-old Polish girl with a lovable devotion to cats and a budding artistic curiosity, discovering NFTs enabled her to cultivate her interests into a digital passion project. Cointelegraph sat down with Amelia and her father, Marcin, to discuss the importance of parenting children on the value of money and …

Targeted phishing scam nets $438K in crypto and NFTs from hacked Beeple account
Digital artist and popular nonfungible token (NFT) creator Mike Winkelmann, more commonly known as Beeple, had his Twitter account hacked on Sunday as part of a phishing scam. Harry Denley, security analyst of MetaMask, alerted users that Beeple’s tweets at the time containing a link to a raffle of a Louis Vuitton NFT collaboration were, in fact, a phishing scam that would drain the crypto out of users’ wallets if clicked. ⚠️ Beeple's Twitter account has been compromised (ATO) to post a phishing website to steal funds. 0x7b69c4f2ACF77300025E49DbDbB65B068b2Fda7D 0xF305F6073CFa24f05FF15CA5b387DD91f871b983 pic.twitter.com/0MPNwOPlEu — harry.eth (whg.eth) (@sniko_) May 22, 2022 The scammers were …

Life-changing money: The 10 most expensive NFTs sold to date
Nonfungible tokens, or NFTs, are turning out to be a treasure store with prices striding into the millions of dollars. Instances of an NFT garnering more than $69 million or a tweet fetching $2.9 million are not a fantasy, but an incredible reality. In 2021, an NFT by digital artist Beeple, or Mike Winkelmann, sold for a whopping $69 million, making NFTs a media hotshot and opening the floodgates for a string of other NFT sales, many of these in millions of dollars. Prompted by the plentiful talk about NFTs, stars like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Eminem, Grimes and many …

Plain talk about NFTs: What they have been and what they are becoming
There’s been a tremendous amount of hype and misinformation about nonfungible tokens (NFTs) since they appeared on the scene in 2014, particularly since the total market for them passed $24 billion. You can’t open a news feed without an article about nonfungible tokens popping up. These inevitably contain the obligatory “An NFT is a” paragraph for newcomers… and for readers who’ve consumed a dozen similar articles but still don’t get it. If you’re among the latter, you’ve come to the right place. NFTs really can be important and useful, and they’re evolving to become more so. But NFT evangelists and …

The creator economy will explode in the Metaverse, but not under Big Tech’s regime
In his monthly crypto tech column, Israeli serial entrepreneur Ariel Shapira covers emerging technologies within the crypto, decentralized finance (DeFi) and blockchain space, as well as their roles in shaping the economy of the 21st century. With the news that Meta plans to take a nearly 50% cut of virtual asset sales in Horizon Worlds, it will not be surprising if independent artists and content creators turn away from the Metaverse entirely. Or at least from its Meta rendition, no matter how excited the company might be about the creator economy. It’s one thing to pay this much when the …

Chinese court rules marketplace guilty of minting NFTs from stolen artwork
A court in the Chinese city of Hangzhou issued a one-of-a-kind judgment against a nonfungible token (NFT) marketplace for allowing a user to create (or mint) NFTs of stolen artwork. As reported by South China Morning Post, the court verdict toward the NFT marketplace was made after Shenzhen-based company Qice filed a lawsuit against NFTCN’s parent company, BigVerse. The lawsuit claimed that an NFTCN user stole a copyrighted artwork of Ma Qianli, a Chinese artist specializing in drawing and printing. The user of the NFT platform allegedly poached one of Ma’s cartoons. Based on the evidence collected, the court found …

Increased adoption of Metaverse NFTs will power the next NFT growth cycle
Metaverses and blue-chip nonfungible tokens (NFTs) are the driving forces behind the dramatic growth in the NFT market. Projects like the Bored Apes, Crypto Punks, Azuki, Clone X and Doodles collections have steadily attracted collectors' interest in the past year. As a result, these NFT projects have helped the NFT market achieve a growth rate of over 20,000% and a sales volume of approximately $17 billion. For an industry that once occupied a tiny sliver of attention within the crypto/blockchain world, it's clear that NFTs are here to stay despite earlier critiques of their ephemeral nature. However, given the recent …

While men wanted, women did: Empowering female creators with NFTs and crypto
With the blockchain industry growing at lightspeed, businesses are actively and, even desperately, seeking out talent; and there just doesn’t seem to be enough manpower out there. Enter women — literally around 50% of the global population that has, so far, been heavily underrepresented in crypto. With most developers being men, it’s understandable this still dev-led space noticeably lacks female contributors, but as the industry surges, womanpower is needed. And, so, women have begun slowly and steadily entering the crypto space and the world of nonfungible tokens (NFTs). While only an estimated 5% of women own NFTs, and 5-15% are …
