Ethereum Foundation Re-Releases Community Website

Published at: May 3, 2019

The Ethereum Foundation has decided to release a new iteration of their community website ethereum.org, according to an official tweet on April 30.According to an Ethereum Foundation blog post on the same day, ethereum.org is intended to be a repository of community-created Ethereum content, such as documentation and tutorials built by community members. The Ethereum team goes on to say:

“This is a website for a community that is busy getting things done: on-boarding new developers and users, educating ourselves and each other, and building.”

This is reflected in the four subpages available on the website thus far:

“Beginners,” “Use,” “Learn,” and “Build.” The team, however, emphasizes that the website in its current state is merely a starting point; they expect the community to make improvements and additions.

As Cointelegraph previously reported, the Ethereum Foundation has partnered with Filecoin owner Protocol Labs to create a new Verifiable Delay Function (VDF) as of April. VDFs are a new type of cryptographic tool that safeguard against malicious users who attempt to exploit programs using psuedo-random number generators for personal gain. The Ethereum Foundation also awards research grants via their Ethereum Foundation Grants Program that fund a variety of community-based Ethereum projects. As Cointelegraph recently covered, Ethereum has awarded grants to researchers at Columbia and Yale who are compiling the smart contract language DeepSea into the Ethereum Virtual Machine.

Bitcoin and Ethereum transaction fees sink 95% from all-time highs
The cost of using the Bitcoin and Ethereum blockchains is on the rapid decline, as evidenced by a 93%–95% reduction in average transaction fees over the past couple of months. Fees are paid to the miners who process transactions on a typical proof-of-work blockchain. The size of the fee depends on the size of the transaction in bytes and how many transactions a coin has gone through in the past (as these need to be checked every time a coin is moved). Supply and demand for space also dictate the size of a transaction fee since blockchains have limited capacity. …
