Gemini launches crypto education platform featuring ‘Expert Network’

Published at: Feb. 18, 2021

Gemini, a leading U.S. cryptocurrency exchange, has launched a free educational resource to broaden the public’s understanding of digital assets.

Cameron Winklevoss, Gemini’s president, unveiled Cryptopedia on Thursday. He described the new platform as a “free resource that provides open-access, high-quality crypto education to the world.”

The platform currently includes categories devoted to cryptocurrencies, security, trading and investing, and DeFi.

Cryptopedia was also designed for subject matter experts to share their knowledge about digital assets. The platform’s “Expert Network” includes founders and thought leaders from some of the industry’s biggest projects, including Brave CEO Brendan Eich, Aave CEO Stani Kulechov, Tezos co-founder Kathleen Breitman and others.

Although crypto markets have matured over the years, the need for education remains strong given the relatively limited use cases of digital money. Even projects within the crypto industry have identified education as essential to advancing adoption, especially at the individual level.

According to the most recently available data on the subject, cryptocurrency adoption remains in its very early stages. Research from the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance recently found that roughly 101 people across the globe currently hold Bitcoin (BTC) and other digital assets. In order to grow this number while avoiding the issues that plagued early crypto adopters, more education is needed

In presenting Cryptopedia, Winklevoss said:

“We know that the lack of comprehensive education around crypto is one of the main barriers to entry and adoption for consumers — which is where Cryptopedia can help.”

In the case of the latter, hackers apparently did not gain access to the full phone numbers as certain numeric digits were obfuscated. The leaked database did not include sensitive personal information such as names, addresses, and other know-your-customer information.
