Bison Trails’ New Software Could Make Slashing Penalties a Thing of the Past

Published at: Aug. 20, 2020

Bison Trails, a Blockchain infrastructure-as-a-service provider, has created double-signing protection software, or DSP, which aims to address the slashing penalties associated with double signing messages.

According to the company, many digital asset holders consider slashing penalties to be one of the “main risks” of Blockchain participation, as they make it more difficult for the network to reach consensus.

Speaking with Cointelegraph, Aaron Henshaw, CTO and co-founder of Bison Trails, stated that such penalties could be dangerous for anyone participating with their stake in a network as “it represents a place where token holders and validators can actually lose existing funds, not just miss out on future rewards.”

Henshaw claims that the software is first being offered to users participating in the Kuzama and Tezos networks. Polkadot, Cosmos, and Celo support will then follow.

The NY-based firm said that if a cloud provider, region, or even a node has an issue with double signing events, the software will be able to respond to bring the infrastructure online and minimize downtime while ensuring that such infrastructure won’t cause a double sign.

Bison Trails’ CTO explained:

“Bison Trails can safely respond to outages and even have highly-available nodes waiting without access to the keys they would need to sign.”

In case of an outage in a primary node, the DSP could confirm the release of a private key and allow a backup node to begin validating, said Henshaw.

In July, Bison Trails announced support for Ethereum 2.0 — an upgrade that will move the network from its proof-of-work consensus mechanism to proof-of-stake. The network will reward validators early, with a reward rate of 23% on ETH.

Axie Infinity devs release governance token for Ronin Blockchain to mixed player response
On Thursday, Sky Mavis, the creator of monster-battle game Axie Infinity, released its much-anticipated RON governance token. The token is based on its Ethereum (ETH) sidechain Ronin Network. Its purpose includes paying for transactions on Ronin, staking, and participating in community proposals. According to its developers, Ronin has over 250,000 unique daily active addresses. When ranked by the number of weekly active users, Katana, Ronin's decentralized exchange (DEX), is the No. 2 largest DEX. First steps: Basic tips for getting started investing in DeFi
Decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols have diversified investment opportunities in the crypto industry by facilitating novel and innovative passive income generation schemes. Delving a bit into how they work, DeFi systems are based on blockchain technology and run on programmable chains such as the BNB Chain and the Ethereum Network. The chains use decentralized peer-to-peer (P2P) finance architectures to cut out the middleman and enable lending, borrowing and liquidity provision. This leads to higher interest rates compared to those provided by regulated financial institutions such as banks. For perspective, many regulated banks provide interest rates of less than one percent per …

Genomics company explores NFTs in hopes of advancing precision medicine
It’s predicted that nonfungible tokens (NFTs) will have a vast impact on society. Given this, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the trillion-dollar healthcare sector has begun to explore NFTs tokens to advance medicine. It’s also important to point out that blockchain technology can play an increasingly important role within the healthcare sector. This was recently highlighted in a report from the European Union Blockchain Observatory, which specifically documents how blockchain applications can solve challenges facing the healthcare industry. For example, the paper notes that patient engagement and transparency of how data is stored, along with the effective distribution …
