Cryptocurrency gateway Gate.io shares historical rise to success

Published at: May 24, 2022

There is no shortage of cryptocurrency exchanges on the market today. Although the choice is a good thing, for many investors, the decision can be debilitating. After all, while a good platform can be the key to building your investment portfolio, the adverse may also be true, that a poorly set up exchange may cost a user both in opportunities lost and more directly in scams. For this reason, one of the greatest tells of a good exchange becomes their reputation.

Although marketing speak may tell a good story of an exchange’s success in the industry, secure functions and diverse offerings, users must remember that actions often speak louder than words. Prospective investors do well to ask themselves, "would I trust a platform with one year of experience in the industry over one with nearly a decade of managing secure transactions and adapting to end-user feedback and industry trends?" The answer is pretty clear.

Founded in 2013, Gate.io is one of the longest-running secure exchanges in the world. The platform is known for providing services related to trading the industry’s top digital assets, decentralized finance (DeFi), research, wallet services, venture capital investing and analytics, among others. In response to its comprehensive and growing ecosystem, Gate.io now serves over 10 million users worldwide. The platform has since received a rating of 4.5 by Forbes Advisor, making it one of the highest-rated exchanges in 2021.

With over nine years of experience under Gate.io’s belt, the platform looks back at some of its major accomplishments as part of its anniversary celebration that will be launched in the middle of May. In addition to a series of celebrations, Gate.io plans to undergo a major upgrade to further give back to their community.

A look through history

The platform has evolved significantly since its official creation in April 2013, its first major transition occurring formally on March 2, 2020. On this date, Gate.io underwent an upgrade of GT, the native token of the Gatechain mainnet, to a platform token. GT then became recognized for its use in VIP tier escalation, trading fee debits, and access to exclusive activities, representing the start of the token’s applications and the beginnings of its intrinsic value growth.

Later in the same year, Gate.io became the first mainstream trading platform to offer 100% margin audit certification. The announcement provided validation to existing users that their assets were secure, as stated through blockchain signatures and Merckel trees in an open-source and transparent way.

With a secure foundation for asset exchanges on one side, Gate.io further looked at extending its verticals by opening up an application channel for quality blockchain projects in January 2020.

In the year to follow, the welcoming of new projects was met with the go-live of the smart contract Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) mainnet. The mainnet, which was characterized by secure infrastructure, low fees and high performance, was introduced with the belief that everyone could soon create highly secure decentralized applications (DApps). With strong foundations now in place, Gate.io also indicated the launch of their DeFi Ecosystem and Labs Incubator Program, in which Gate.io Labs would be funding 50 million in cryptocurrency to support high-quality project development.

Following the rise of DApps, there was a market trend towards nonfungible tokens (NFTs). Naturally, Gate.io’s response became evident on its 8th anniversary with the release of the NFT Magic Box, which was said to be the world’s first centralized trading platform.

Just a few months later, Gate.io also released an early-stage crypto venture capital fund Gate Ventures to continue facilitating early-stage projects. Together, these new developments resulted in a platform that now exceeded 10 million users as of January 2022.

Leading with safety and security

Throughout the platform’s nine years of success, the team continues to attribute high attention to safety and security, deep insight into the crypto market and creation of a comprehensive ecosystem to its success as a mainstream provider.

With extensive services now under its belt, the platform displays a strong reputation that often precedes its extensive service offerings, drawing in new users and retaining existing customers alike.

The Steem Takeover and the Coming Proof-of-Stake Crisis
The Steem blockchain reportedly experienced a troubling episode recently, whereby the blockchain’s entire governance system was disturbed. Tron founder Justin Sun, new owner of the Steemit social network based on the Steem token, appears to have successfully executed a takeover of Steem by leveraging not only tokens directly controlled, but also tokens held on several major exchanges, in order to vote out the previous delegates (Steem uses a delegated proof-of-stake system) and install new ones. This means that customers of these exchanges likely had their funds used without their consent in this blockchain power struggle. While it was an unfortunate …

Overview of Software Wallets, the Easy Way to Store Crypto
Similar to a bank account for fiat currency, a crypto wallet is a personal interface for a cryptocurrency network that provides reliable storage and enables transactions. Whether a cryptocurrency is securely stored or not, much depends on the wallet, which is only as secure as its private keys. Wallets are generally either hot or cold. The funds in a hot wallet can be spent at any time, online. A cold wallet functions in contrast: not intended for regular cryptocurrency transactions, but funds can be received at any time. Wallets can also be divided into three groups: software, hardware and paper. …

Crypto Startup Uses Surveys to Build Exchange Based on ‘Emotions and Thoughts’ of Traders
A new crypto exchange says it offers “bells and whistles” compared with rivals – and argues that most of the market leaders are failing to provide investors with the technical analysis tools they need to make informed decisions. In a break away from confusing user interfaces, Encrybit wants to help traders that it says have been pushed to use third-party software because exchanges have let them down. It claims many crypto enthusiasts have no choice but navigate between multiple exchanges – remembering seemingly endless passwords and withdrawals fee in order to access the broad range of cryptocurrencies they want to …

What is the Trust Wallet and how do you use it?
A secure cryptocurrency wallet is crucial for those investing in the growing cryptocurrency market. Technically, crypto wallets are pieces of software that enable users to send and receive digital currencies, like Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH) and Litecoin (LTC). Cryptocurrency wallets are typically used to store multiple coins and tokens at once. However, most wallets only support a limited number of digital currencies. These wallets can come in the form of hardware (much like a flash drive) that can be connected to the internet as needed or digital storage (like a banking app) that can be accessed on a device. To …
