Bitcoin Suisse expects to offer Ethereum staking before Christmas

Published at: Nov. 18, 2020

Crypto service provider Bitcoin Suisse expects to offer its Ethererum staking services before Christmas, underscoring the firm’s expectations of an imminent launch of Ethereum 2.0.

In a statement released Wednesday via Trustnodes, Bitcoin Suisse said:

“The deposit contract for Ethereum 2 is now live. This means that the new version of the second biggest protocol by market cap will most likely become a reality before Christmas.”

The firm intends to offer the staking service from the first day that Ethereum 2.0 is live:

“This is one of the most significant milestones in crypto this year and we will be ready for our clients on day one.”

Bitcoin Suisse was founded in 2013, making it one of the first crypto-focused financial service providers.

The Ethereum 2.0 deposit contract is open, which means anyone who wants to become a validator can deposit their minimum stake of 32 Ether (ETH). As of Wednesday, the deposit contract had over 101,700 ETH deposits valued at nearly $48.2 million.

The first stage of ETH 2.0 is expected to launch Dec. 1, according to an Ethereum Foundation blog post from earlier this month. Developers have set a minimum total staking threshold of 524,288 ETH as the trigger for the mainnet. The target must be met at least seven days beforehand, so by Nov. 24.

At the current rate, it appears unlikely that enough ETH will be staked to ensure a successful launch by Dec. 1. However, that could quickly change as the cutoff date nears. As ConsenSys engineer Ben Edgington recently told Cointelegraph:

"There’s little benefit in staking early, so I think people are just taking their time."

As a crypto custodian, Bitcoin Suisse lets investors participate in Ethereum staking without having to meet the minimum 32 ETH threshold. Svante Jorgensen, a blockchain engineer at the firm, told Trustnodes earlier this year that Bitcoin Suisse offers “no lower limit on staking size.”

Ethereum Merge a 'few months after' June: Dev clears up what’s going on
The long-awaited Ethereum Merge is set for yet another delay, with developers working on the upgrade estimating a completion time a “few months after” June. Owing to the success of testing, there was a general expectation the Merge would go through mid year, however the latest setback is unsurprising given that Proof of Stake has been delayed constantly ever since it was first proposed. That said, the signs are promising that the Ethereum mainnet will actually merge with the beacon chain to become a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) network this year. For real. Ethereum developer Tim Beiko provided the updated timeline via …

Brandt’s bearish ETH call — But community predicts $3K before Merge
Veteran futures trader Peter Brandt has suggested that the price of Ether (ETH) could drop to as low as $1,268 in the coming month, but the consensus view of 15,500 members of the CoinMarketCap community is that the price will have hit roughly $3,131 by June 30. The Ethereum network is now in the final steps of its long-awaited Merge with the Beacon Chain and transition to proof-of-stake (PoS), with developers confirming on Wednesday that they successfully completed the Ropsten testnet merge. The Ropsten testnet has now been merged! What a historic and thrilling day for the Ethereum community and …

Ethereum miner balance reaches four-year high weeks before the Merge
The Ethereum Merge is slated for Sept. 15, which will see the Ethereum blockchain move from its current proof-of-work (PoW) mining consensus to proof-of-stake (PoS). The Merge is being touted as one of the biggest upgrades for the Ethereum blockchain as it would help the network move to a more energy-efficient way of verifying transactions and eliminate PoW mining completely. With the Merge date approaching, Ether (ETH) miner's balance has touched a new four-year high. According to Oklink data, the balance of Ethereum miner addresses exceeded 260,000 ETH with a total of 261,848 ETH valued at over $415 million at …

Ethereum to $2K? ETH price 'bull flag' hints at September gains versus Bitcoin, dollar
Ethereum's native token, Ether (ETH), looks ready to grow stronger compared to the U.S. dollar and Bitcoin (BTC) in the days leading up to its proof-of-stake transition in September. ETH price chart bullish setup The bullish outlook emerges from classic technical indicators on ETH/USD and ETH/BTC charts. For instance, ETH/USD has been forming a "falling wedge" pattern with a profit target sitting around 30% above the current prices. Meanwhile, the ETH/BTC chart is painting a potential "bull flag" that could increase the price by approximately 10% from current price levels upon resolution. Here's how these bullish setups could play out. …

Apples and oranges? How the Ethereum Merge could affect Bitcoin
It’s been a month since Ethereum said goodbye to an essential feature its blockchain shared with Bitcoin (BTC). Called the Ethereum Merge, the long-hyped upgrade was widely celebrated, with the blockchain ecosystem. However, for the mainstream audience or even for the average trader, it felt more like a Star Wars Day celebrated by sci-fi geeks than an early Christmas. As the Ethereum Merge occurred on Sept. 15, the most extensive blockchain ecosystem parted ways with the proof-of-work (PoW), the energy-hungry consensus mechanism that makes Bitcoin tick. The Ethereum blockchain now works on a more eco-friendly proof-of-stake (PoS) mechanism that doesn’t …
